AFL names John Moyers ADT Defensive Player of the Week

Chicago Rush News Release

Chicago Rush lineman John Moyer was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his performance Sunday in Chicago's 45-41 playoff-clinching win over Dallas, the Arena Football League announced.

A leading candidate for AFL Lineman of the Year honors, Moyer recorded his league-leading eighth sack of the season, along with 2.5 tackles and an interception in the win.

Moyer, who also was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his Week Three performance versus Colorado and ADT Defensive Player of the Month for February, has recorded 19.5 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and four blocked kicks to accompany his eight sacks this season. His sack of Dallas QB Glenn Gauntt, the 26th of his career, moved Moyer into sole possession of ninth place on the AFL's all-time sack list.

"John's play is one of the big reasons why we have been so successful this year on defense," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "With all the changes and injuries we have had in the defensive backfield, the pressure Moyer, James Baron and the rest of the line puts on opposing quarterbacks forces mistakes that we have been able to capitalize on."

The Rush (10-4) can clinch the Central Division and a first-round home playoff game with a win against the visiting Indiana Firebirds (8-7) Sunday at 2 p.m. Fans wishing to purchase individual game tickets to this Sunday's final regular season home game may order by calling Ticketmaster at (312) 559-1212, or by visiting the Ticketmaster Web site at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets also may be purchased in person at any Ticketmaster outlet or the Allstate Arena box office.
