THE COACHES
Mike Neu: The first coach of the New Orleans VooDoo, Mike Neu is a six-year Arena Football coaching veteran.
Since being named coach of the VooDoo on June 17, 2003, Neu worked has worked tirelessly to make New Orleans a winning team. In his first season at the helm, he successfully molded a 24-man roster comprised of a mix of AFL veterans and rookies, allowing the VooDoo to get off to a 7-1 start, one of the fastest starts for a first-year AFL entry. Neu led the VooDoo to an 11-5 record, making them the only team in league history to win 11 games in their first season.
The VooDoo's Southern Division title marked only the fourth time in AFL history that an expansion franchise has won their division in their first year of play. Following the season, Neu was named the AFL Coach of the Year.
For his professional career, Neu has posted a 23-15 regular season record as an AFL head coach and has reached the playoffs every season as both a coach and a player in the Arena Football League.
Neu came to New Orleans after serving as head coach of the Carolina Cobras. In 2002, Neu guided the Cobras to a 5-2 record on the road and their second-straight playoff berth. Carolina posted the first playoff victory in club history in 2002 as the club featured the AFL's fourth-ranked defense. As offensive coordinator with the Cobras in 2001, before being promoted to head coach prior to the team's first round playoff game, the Cobras averaged over 56 points a game (fifth in the league) and finished 7-7 (improving from a 3-13 record the year before).
Prior to coming to Carolina, Neu served as head coach and director of football operations for the Augusta Stallions of af2 in 2000. In his only season, Neu led Augusta to a 14-4 record, the American Conference title and was named the league's Coach of the Year. Augusta finished in the top four in every major offensive and defensive category. Neu started his Arena Football League coaching career with Nashville in 1998, when he served as quarterbacks coach for the Kats and handled all play-calling responsibilities for the offense. The next year he was promoted to offensive coordinator and the Kats achieved their third consecutive playoff berth. The team also set franchise highs in six offensive categories, including scoring and total offense. Current New Orleans QB Andy Kelly, one of top quarterbacks in Arena Football League history, enjoyed a career-high passer rating of 116.4 under Neu's tutelage in 1999. Neu began his coaching career in 1994 as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Ball State.
Neu's professional playing career started with a stint with the Canadian Football League's Calgary Stampeders in 1995 before joining the Arena Football League's Orlando Predators in 1996 and moving on to the Nashville Kats in 1997. The 1997 Nashville squad which Neu played on won an expansion record 10 games, a record which was broken by this VooDoo in 2004.
Neu played four seasons at Ball State, where he was named the MAC Most Valuable Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 1993. A four-year starter, Neu guided Ball State to the conference championship his final year and holds school career passing records in passing yardage, passing attempts, completions and touchdown passes. He was recently voted to the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. Neu and his wife, Charmin, have a daughter, Graycen and a son, Carson.
Doug Plank: On July 30, 2004, Doug Plank was announced as the new head coach of the Georgia Force becoming the fourth head coach in the team's history. Plank comes to the Force having served as the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Rattlers from 2002-2004, which included three consecutive ArenaBowl championship game berths.
Following a 3-5 start in 2004, the Rattlers turned their season around to finish with a league-tying best 11-5 record and secure the top seed in the AFL playoffs. In 2002, Plank helped guide the Rattlers defense to a number one regular season ranking in rushing defense and scoring defense. In his three seasons with the Rattlers, he coached four First Team All-Arena selections, two Second Team All-Arena players and four All-Ironman Team choices, including 2003 AFL Ironman of the Year Randy Gatewood.
A former member of The Ohio State University football team, Plank played in three consecutive Rose Bowls, 1973, 1974, and 1975. While at Ohio State, he played for legendary coach Woody Hayes.
Plank brings with him a wealth of football experience that includes an impressive career in the National Football League. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 12th round of the 1975 NFL Entry Draft and started at safety for eight seasons. The "46 Defense" created by Buddy Ryan was named for Plank's jersey number and aggressive style of play. Plank was also the first Bears rookie to ever lead the team in tackles.
Following his playing career, Plank became a franchisee for the Burger King Corporation owning and operating 17 restaurants in three different states.
Plank's professional history also includes experience as a member of the Rattlers broadcast team. Prior to becoming defensive coordinator, he spent five years as the Rattlers' radio analyst and two seasons as their television color analyst. His broadcasting experience also includes stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Arizona State University Football, Fox Sports Net, Westwood One and the Sports USA Radio Network.
Plank and his wife Nancy have two children, Andrea and Michael.

WHAT A CROWD
Through the regular season in 2004, the VooDoo attracted an average of 15,240 fans per game to the Graveyard. This season, the VooDoo's attendance has once again remained amongst lead leaders, above the league average of 13,052 and possessed the highest figures in the Southern Division, fueled by two consecutive sellout crowds. Below are the league's top average attendance figures.

WORKING THE POLLS
The New Orleans VooDoo's success in 2005 has impressed media members enough to have them ranked in the top five of both AFL media team polls. In the Arena Football League's "Power Poll", released on Monday on arenafootball. com, the league's official website, the VooDoo moved up to the fourth spot following the team's win over Chicago. The VooDoo moved up two spots into the second spot in the AFLWA weekly poll. The VooDoo's opponent this Saturday, the Georgia Force, hold the top spot. The AFLWA is a national organization made up of media members who cover the AFL. Both weekly polls ranked the top eight teams in the Arena Football League. At the beginning of the season, New Orleans failed to hold a spot in either weekly poll.
RECEIVING OPTION
WR/LB Thabiti Davis was signed from Detroit to fill the void of a tall receiver in the VooDoo offense and improve the team's red zone production. After enjoying career-highs in 2004 and finishing among league leaders with 127 receptions for 1557 yards and 26 touchdowns, Davis has helped the the VooDoo offense, recording 66 receptions for 559 yards and 11 touchdowns. Currently, Davis is tied for 20th in the AFL in scoring among nonkickers (66), ranked third in receptions, 17th in receiving yardage, 12th in first downs (34) and tied for 11th in third down receptions (8). He has also been a steady defender at "Jill" linebacker, recording 15.5 tackles, one half a sack and one pass defense.
IMPACT PLAYER
New Orleans VooDoo OS Aaron Bailey has been an important part of the VooDoo offense and one of the AFL's leading receivers since signing with the team prior to their inaugural season. In 2004, Bailey recorded 91 receptions for 1364 yards with 32 touchdowns and finished among league leaders in all major receiving categories, while setting career-highs. This season, Bailey is once again ranked among AFL leaders with 69 receptions for 858 yards and 17 touchdown catches, while returning 15 kickoffs for 238 yards with one touchdown. Bailey is currently tied for fourth in the AFL in scoring among nonkickers (114), fifth in touchdown receptions, ranked first in receptions, third in receiving yardage and total yards from scrimmage (859), sixth in allpurpose yards (1062), second in first downs (53) and ranked third in third down receptions (10).
ANDY KELLY
QB Andy Kelly, one of the AFL's premier quarterbacks and all-time passing leaders, was signed by the VooDoo in the team's objective to improve their passing offense. He currently holds the AFL career passing records for completions (3106), attempts (5031) and passing yards (34, 450) and is second all-time in touchdown passes (669). Kelly helped engineer squads in Nashville, Dallas and Detroit to playoff berths in seven consecutive seasons from 1997-2003 and helped lead the Kats to consecutive ArenaBowl berths from 2000-01. Kelly has started 126 consecutive games, the alltime record for consecutive starts by a QB. Kelly currently trails New York's Aaron Garcia (672) for the league's all-time lead in touchdown passes by three scores, as he is currently the ninth rated quarterback in the Arena Football League in 2005 (113.4) and at or near the top of the league leaders in most categories, completing 243-of-360 passes for 2417 yards with 49 touchdown passes and six interceptions. The 12-year AFL veteran is currently leading the league in attempts, completions, passing yardage, touchdown passes and is fourth in completion percentage (67.5).
B.J. COHEN
OL/DL B.J. Cohen's leadership and performance has played a key role both on the field and in the locker room for the VooDoo. Starting 16 games last season, Cohen recorded 26 tackles, four sacks and finished third in the AFL with a career-high four forced fumbles. In 2005, Cohen is currently among the AFL's defensive leaders with 12.5 tackles, five sacks, one interception and a career-high five passes defensed. He is tied for second in the league in sacks. VooDoo fans will have plenty of chances to catch them live and on various radio and TV programs throughout 2005.

Coach Neu Says
Excerpts from VooDoo coach Mike Neu's comments about the team's win over the Chicago Rush and and the matchup with Saturday's upcoming opponent, the Georgia Force at his weekly press conference.
(on if he has even taken part in a second half of a game like Sunday at Chicago where both teams struggled to score) "I can't say that I have. Like we said, it's a new challenge every week. It was certainly a tale of two halves. The first half, we were very productive on the offensive side of the ball. We struggled a little bit on the defensive side of the ball and then in the second half, you flipped that. We struggled from an offensive standpoint, but we were very good on the defensive side of the ball. We got some big stops down the stretch, especially in the red zone. We held them one time on fourth down, we stopped the run. We held them to a field goal another time when they were down inside the 10. It was really a tale of two halves, but in the end, I think it was important. Our defense got a great stop to start the overtime. Chris Pointer got his first interception. The offense did a good job of going down the field and finishing it off. There's battles within the battle every week. We know that. Fortunately we came away with a big W in a tough place to play and they're not always going to be pretty. It's a W."
(on the late game heroics of Chris Pointer this season) "Chris has made some big plays in his career so far with the VooDoo. Chris is one of those guys who has everything you look for in a quarterback. He's got a short term memory. He's a tough guy. He likes to tackle. He likes to hit. He's done a great job for us this year. We said that early on in training camp when we didn't have Monty (Montgomery), Chris did a great job of filling the leadership role and really helping the young guys pick up the game, so Chris has always been a big player for us."
(on the possibility of the VooDoo being 4-4 without Pointer's two big plays) "Yes, you can't look at it this way in this league. It seems like every week and in every game it always comes right down to the end and we find a way to get it done. That's the important thing. We found different ways all year long to get wins and that's important and they're not all how you would like them to be, but the most important thing is I'm never going to get greedy. A win is a win and you take that. You move forward. You correct your mistakes. You try to strive to play consistent football week in and week out and you want to be dominant on both sides, but, unfortunately that's the way it happens every single week, so it's just great to come out with a win."
(on how he grades his team overall at the midpoint of the season) "I think the big thing and I can't give you a specific grade...I think there's been times so far in the first eight games where we've had to rely on our offense early on. I think there's been times that we've had to rely on our defense especially as of late. I think that's good. Both sides of the ball have had to carry the load if you will at some point. Now in the second half of the season, we just strive for consistency on both sides. We want to be a team that can be dominant. In order to be dominant, we're going to have to get that consistent play on both sides and have it happen at the same not. Not having one side of the ball carry the team one week and another side of the ball carry the team another week, so you strive for consistency. I think the encouraging thing is that we've had to rely on different areas through the first eight games to win."
(on if they are good enough to compete for the league championship) "My answer to that question is yes. I like our football team. Obviously a lot of it has to do with down the stretch if we are able to stay healthy. But, I love this team. We find different ways to win. We've got great character, good chemistry, all these guys like each other, like going to war with one another. I think if we continue to make strides every week, we can compete with anybody."
(on what you attribute never missing the playoffs as a player or a coach to) "It's just the players. You're fortunate to have a quality group of players. I certainly can't take the credit for those guys putting it out on the line and putting the shoulder pads on, going out and playing the game. I'm fortunate to have a great coaching staff around me. Coach (Kevin) Porter, Coach (Junior) Ili, Coach (Ken) Matous, those guys got a lot of experience. Coach Ili has played in a ton of AFL games as a lineman. Coach Porter is one of the sharpest minds in the business. We got a heck of a coaching staff and I'm fortunate to have those guys to lean on in crunch time. In meetings we talk about personnel all the time and the guys that go out and put the pads on. Those guys deserve the credit."
(on how he feels about the challenge of not wanting to miss the playoffs for the first time) "I enjoy that challenge. Talk is cheap. You got to go out and execute, find your way to the playoffs and travel that winding road. Our approach every week is we know every week is a must win situation. You can't afford to slip up in this league. You're going to find yourself sitting around home when playoff time comes around. We're motivated every week. We don't care who it is that we play. We know an opportunity for us to get a big win is going to keep us in the thick of the playoff race."
(on if Sunday's pre-game provocation motivated his team prior to the start of the game) "Absolutely, we could not wait to get out of the locker room to start the game. That right there, we walked right off the field, there was nothing that I needed to say to get the team fired up. Always as a coach, you're looking for a way to motivate your team right before you go on the field, your pregame talk that you deliver to the team. You always try to find a way to motivate your team and make sure they come out of the gates swinging. I didn't need to say anything. Everybody was chomping at the bit. We couldn't wait to get on that field. The look that Monty (Montgomery) had on his face yesterday in the locker room before we left to get on the field, I knew it was going to be a serious, intense battle."
