New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, N.H.- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 2011 Eastern League Champions and Class AA Affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, announced a new addition to their radio and media department. Epping native Tom Gauthier joins the staff as the new Director of Broadcast/Media Relations, taking over for Media Relations Manager Matt Leite, who has been named the Director of Media Relations with the Class A Hagerstown Suns.
Gauthier joins the Fisher Cats after spending the last three seasons calling Minor League Baseball in Kentucky. He served as the inaugural broadcaster and media coordinator for the Bowling Green Hot Rods, the Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Fisher Cats' sister club in the Midwest League.
"We are excited to bring Tom back home to New Hampshire as we see Matt grow into a well-deserved new position," said Fisher Cats President and General Manager, Rick Brenner. "We have seen and heard Tom cultivate his craft with our club in Kentucky and we know he will make a great addition to our broadcast team. Matt has been a vital asset to this club for the last year and he will be a strong addition in Hagerstown."
The return to his home state marks a return to the Fisher Cats for Gauthier, who worked with the club for three seasons, primarily as an official scorer, but occasionally filling in on the Fisher Cats radio airwaves. In 2008, he stepped behind the microphone full-time as the No. 2 announcer for the Portland Sea Dogs, the Fisher Cats Eastern League rival, before heading to Bowling Green for the start of the 2009 season.
"It is exciting to be coming back to New Hampshire and joining a very dynamic Fisher Cats front office," said Gauthier. "I am truly blessed to have spent three great years in Kentucky, building lasting friendships with our staff, fans, and folks in the Rays organization. I thank Rick and Art Solomon for the opportunity to return home and work with a great franchise and the best baseball fans in the country."
Gauthier will team with Bob Lipman and Dick Lutsk to provide play-by-play coverage of all 142 Fisher Cats games beginning next April. Additionally, he will work with the New Hampshire media, showcasing the community initiatives the Fisher Cats have undertaken since their inception in 2004. These initiatives include large-scale events like the Granite State Baseball Dinner, which benefits CHaD, the Ted Williams Museum, and the Fisher Cats Foundation. But his work will also include the promotion of small-scale events, including youth sports leagues that raise thousands of dollars for their organizations through Fisher Cats Fundraisers.
Prior to pursuing his baseball broadcasting career full-time, Gauthier was a member of the New Hampshire media, working at several local radio stations, including 610 AM WGIR, home of the Fisher Cats Radio Network. Another of his stops included 1450 AM WKXL where he partnered with Lipman to call high school athletics in the Capital Region.
Gauthier will handle Fisher Cats media requests beginning Monday, September 26.
The Fisher Cats open the 2012 season on the road on April 5 against the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees). The 2012 home opener is Thursday, April 12 against the New Britain Rock Cats, Class AA Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is 6:35 PM and will be followed by the first of 29 postgame Atlas Fireworks Shows. Game times and additional promos will be announced at a later date.
