New England Surge Launch "The Blitz" High School Athletics Give Back Campaign

Worcester, MA. ... At a Press Conference On Wednesday, February 28, 2007, The New England Surge of the Continental Indoor Football League, (CIFL), Worcester's newest Professional Indoor Football team, "the Surge", launched "The Blitz" campaign. Co-sponsored by Tom Flanagan, Publisher & President of CMass Insider Sports Magazine, the Blitz is a high school athletics "give back" campaign. It is the first of many community outreach campaigns that the Surge will be part of, which focus on the youth and sports. With the Blitz Campaign, the Surge contributes $5.00 to the Athletic Departments of High Schools throughout Worcester County and Central Mass, while matching a $5.00 donation to designated community athletic facilities such as Foley Stadium through its Capital Campaign fund.

"The success of the Surge is directly related to the involvement and support of the community at large, states Roy Lucas, Jr, Founder and President of the New England Surge. He continues, "It is my responsibility to set the precedent for all of us to follow. By contributing to both high school athletics as well as to community sports facilities such as Foley Stadium, will ensure that the Surge is intricately woven into the fabric of Worcester and the surrounding towns."

The Press Conference gathered many of the who's who was Worcester and MetroWest. Andy Lacombe Charter's Channel 3/Worcester News Tonight News Reporter served as the conference spokesperson. Guest speakers included city and state officials, the Surge Founder Roy Lucas, Jr., announcing the details of the Blitz, Coach Rick Buffington, "Coach Buff" who discussed the opportunity a hometown Professional organization gives to local athletes, as well as Assistant Coach Jerry Snay who offered a "reality check" on what it was like to build a high school football team that didn't have the funding. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Stephen Mills spoke about the Foley Stadium Capital Campaign and the importance of campaigns such as the Blitz to its success. Besides local and regional media, attendees included: City and State officials, Department of Education members, school administrators, faculty, Athletic Directors, Directors of Youth Organizations, business leaders, as well as the New England Surge management, Coaches, and some of the football players. The Powersurge Cheerleaders, the Surges' own Professional Cheerleaders were at the side lines spiking the adrenalin of all those who attended.
