Worcester, MA. ...The New England Surge of the Continental Indoor Football League, (CIFL), partners with former New England Patriots kicker John Smith and the John Smith Sports Center in Milford, MA as the official training camp for the team. The training camp for the Surge starts on March 5, 2007.

John Smith was recognized as a premier place-kicker for the New England Patriots from 1973-1983. He led the NFL in scoring in 1979 and1980 and was voted All-Pro. Originally from England, John came to the United States in the summers of 1970-72 and developed soccer programs at two different summer camps in western Massachusetts. Smith was also instrumental in organizing the World Cup Campaign for Boston prior to1994. During the event, he worked as the soccer analyst for Channel 5 TV and Cable News. For the past 34 years, he has run his own camps and clinics in Massachusetts. Smith has been instrumental in starting youth soccer programs in various towns, as well as teaching thousands of coaches and parents to enjoy working with young soccer players of all ability levels.

John Smith relays, "I've always thought that the DCU Center would be the best place for an indoor team, and now it's happened. I am so excited about teaming up with the New England Surge, and offering our facility for the Surge's training camp."

Coach Buff states, "Teaming up with John Smith and his state of the art facility sets the stage for the rigorous training schedule that is planned for the team. The three large indoor fields available closely resemble an actual indoor football arena so that the players get to practice in a facility that simulates the DCU Center."
