June 29, 2009 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Just two days after clinching a spot in the semifinal round of SuperLiga 2009 as the top overall seed following the group stage, the New England Revolution will begin its quest to reclaim the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title on Tuesday night when the club hosts the Harrisburg City Islanders of USL-2 in the third round of the competition. The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m. at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Conn., and a live audio broadcast of the match will be available at www.revolutionsoccer.net.
The meeting will be a rematch of a quarterfinal showdown in the 2007 U.S. Open Cup, which the Revolution won by a score of 2-1 at Gillette Stadium. The Revs went on to win the entire competition that year - capped by a 3-2 victory over FC Dallas in the title match - marking their first-ever cup championship.
Both teams have had successful seasons entering the summer months, as the Revolution (6-4-5 in all competitions) recently went unbeaten (2-0-1) in the group stage of SuperLiga 2009 en route to claiming a semifinal berth, while the City Islanders (7-3-2) are currently the top team in USL-2.
