April 3, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Rochester Rhinos News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution announced today that the club has agreed to loan midfielder Tyler Rudy and forward Timi Mulgrew to the Rochester Rhinos, the Revs' USL affiliate. Mulgrew and Rudy, who signed with the Revs after being on trial with the club throughout the 2015 preseason, began training with the Rhinos this week. The Revolution can recall either player at any time during the period of the loan.
Rochester, who became New England's USL affiliate in 2013, opened its USL season last weekend with 0-0 draw on the road against New York Red Bulls II. Mulgrew and Rudy will be eligible to make their debuts for the Rhinos on Saturday, April 4 when they play on the road against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
Mulgrew signed with the Revs on March 18 following a four-year college career at George Mason University, scoring 26 goals and adding 12 assists in 74 games. The 22-year-old Sterling, Virginia native appeared in all six games that the Revs played in preseason, tallying one assist but has yet to make a MLS regular-season appearance.
Rudy signed with the club in late February after a four-year college career at Georgetown where he scored seven goals and added 12 assists in 88 appearances for the Hoyas, helping them reach the College Cup Final in 2012. A native of Olney, Maryland, Rudy, 22, served as a captain for Georgetown as a senior in 2014, earning Second Team All-BIG EAST honors while also being named a BIG EAST All-Academic selection. Rudy, who made five appearances for New England in the preseason, has yet to make a regular-season appearance for the Revs, but was included in the 18-man gameday squad for the club's home opener against Montreal on March 21.
In addition to the loan moves, the Revs also completed a trade that sees the club receive allocation money from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for an international roster slot. As part of the trade, the Whitecaps will retain the international roster slot through December 31, 2016 .
