New England Revolution and Carolina RailHawks Visit Local School

Cary, NC (Thursday, March 12, 2009) - The Carolina RailHawks continue to promote health and fitness in the community by visiting public schools with Be Active NC as part of "Swoops' Challenge". This Friday, RailHawks Brian Levey and Devon McKenney will be joined by some special guests as they visit Root Elementary School in Raleigh. Major League Soccer's New England Revolution stars Jay Heaps, Wells Thompson and Darrius Barnes will also be on hand to talk to the children about the importance of staying healthy and being active. This just one day before the "Community Shield" match on Saturday, March 14, where the RailHawks and the New England Revolution will face each other at WakeMed Soccer park at 7:00 p.m. Tickets ($10, $15 and $20) are still available at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-KICK (5425)

Heaps, Thompson and Barnes all have ties to North Carolina having attended schools in the area. Heaps and Barnes went to Duke University, while Thompson went to Wake Forest and is a native of Winston Salem. Furthermore Darrius Barnes grew up in the Triangle and was a member of the Cary RailHawks PDL team the last two years as well as growing up through the ranks of the Triangle Futbol Club teams.

So far, The Carolina RailHawks have visited 53 schools across Wake, Durham and Chatham counties, reaching more than 15,000 elementary and middle school students. The RailHawks have continued to promote their message of fitness and healthy living and issued "Swoops' Challenge" where students are encouraged to exercise 30 minutes a day for 30 days. If they complete the challenge they receive two vouchers to any regular season RailHawks match.

The Carolina RailHawks' 2009 season ticket drive is in full swing with the "All-Inclusive" package, that includes the Major League Soccer exhibition against the New England Revolution on March 14, and the CD Olimpia exhibition on March 27, as well as other packages tailored to every soccer fan's needs.
