New Britain Bees News Release
(New Britain, CT) - The New Britain Bees (23-23, 56-53) defeated the York Revolution (24-21, 56-53) 10-3 at New Britain Stadium on Wednesday evening to even up the three-game midweek series at a victory apiece.
New Britain starting pitcher Brandon Beachy registered a no-decision in the ballgame, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings of work, walking three and striking out two. York starting pitcher Mitch Atkins (11-6) was tagged with the loss, surrendering six runs on nine hits (three home runs) across six innings pitched, walking one and striking out five.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom half of the second inning, New Britain got even versus Atkins thanks to a leadoff solo home run to the opposite-field in right by Jovan Rosa, and a two-out game-tying single off the bat of Vince Conde. The roundtripper for Rosa was his fifth big fly since his return to the Hardware City. Trailing 3-2 in the home half of the sixth, the Bees flexed their muscles once again to the tune of a pair of two-run home runs produced by Jonathan Galvez and Vince Conde as Galvez crushed one to left centerfield for his eighth tater of the campaign while Conde went yard to left field for his second tater of the season as the home team took their first lead of the night at 6-3 and never looked back. New Britain broke the game wide open in the bottom of the eighth, batting around and scoring four more runs in the process to give the game its final score of 10-3, highlighted by a leadoff solo home run to right center from Jamar Walton for his 12th four-bagger overall and second in as many nights. Four batters later, Darren Ford joined the hit parade for the first time when he plated Galvez with an RBI base knock after Galvez followed Walton's home run with a base hit. Jason Rogers put the capper on the rally with a two-run single that allowed Conde and Ford to cross the plate as the Bees tallied ten or more hits in a single contest for the 37th time in 2018, while also notching their 27th come-from-behind win and 18th multi-home run game on the campaign. James Skelton led the offensive attack with his first three-hit performance of the year while Brandon Cunniff improved to 2-0 out of the New Britain bullpen. The Bees conclude their series with the reigning Atlantic League Professional Champion York Revolution at New Britain Stadium on Thursday, August 30th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. It will be another Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday, as adults 21 and older can enjoy three dollar domestic drafts ALL NIGHT LONG at any concession stand!
