Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore, MD - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Blast forward Adauto Neto was voted Most Valuable Player of the MISL for the 2005-06 regular season. Neto ranked second in the MISL in points and was named All-MISL First Team last week.
"Neto was a key ingredient for the Blast in our championship run," said Blast General Manager Kevin Healey. "He has been a great addition to our franchise, on and off the field."
Neto, who joined the Blast prior to the 2005-06 season, led the team with 58 points. In addition to ranking second in the MISL in points, he ranked third in the MISL in goals (36) and tied for fourth in assists (22). He was named MISL Offensive Player of the Month in November and February and was a three-time MISL Offensive Player of the Week. Neto also scored two goals while representing the Blast in the 2006 MISL All-Star Game. He recorded four hat tricks this season and recorded multiple points in 15 of the 30 games he played in this season and at least one point in 25 games. After two seasons with the Cleveland Force, Neto joined the Blast when the team selected him in the first round of the 2005 MISL Dispersal Draft. He was named to the MISL All-Rookie Team in 2004 and made his All-MISL debut this season.
"It's a great honor to be recognized among the greatest players who have played in the MISL," said Neto. "I want to thank everyone that made this possible."
Neto is Baltimore's first MVP since the conclusion of the 1983-84 season when Stan Stamenkovic was named MVP after leading the Blast to the 1984 MISL Championship. The Blast went 17-13 in the regular season and went on to defeat the St. Louis Steamers to win the MISL Championship. This year's championship was the team's third in four seasons (2003, 2004 and 2006).
The Blast will host more than 20 sessions of Baltimore Blast Summer Soccer Camp during the next three months before starting training camp for the 2006-07 season in the fall.
