Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - Goaltender Adam Vay has been reassigned by the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild from the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild to the Quad City Mallards, the Mallards announced today.
Vay, 22, served as backup goaltender without seeing any action in four games with Iowa after being reassigned to the Wild on November 7. That call-up was his second this season.
Vay has gone 2-2-0 with a 2.96 goals against average and a .879 save percentage in four games with the Mallards this season.
Vay last season posted a 2.77 goals against average, a .926 save percentage and two shutouts in 39 games with the Hungarian club Debreceni HK in the MOL Liga. The 6-foot-5-inch, 209-pound Budapest native led the league in save percentage and finished fifth in goals against average. In May Vay represented Hungary at the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship in Russia.
Vay has returned to North America after spending two highly successful seasons with the El Paso Rhinos in the junior A Western States Hockey League in 2013-14 and 2014-15. In his first season in the United States, Vay led the WSHL in goals against average (1.76), save percentage (.936) and shutouts (5) while going 25-1-0. He helped the Rhinos to both the 2014 WSHL Thorne Cup title and the junior A national title. The following season Vay and the Rhinos returned to the WSHL finals after Vay finished the regular season tied for third in the league in shutouts (5), third in save percentage (.923) and fourth in goals against average (2.03) and turned in a record of 28-4-0.
The Mallards return to action tomorrow night on the road against the Fort Wayne Komets. The Mallards next play at home Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers. Saturday night's game at the iWireless Center immediately follows Lighting on the Commons on nearby John Deere Commons in downtown Moline. Families attending Lighting on the Commons will receive vouchers for a free kids' ticket to the Mallards game with the purchase of an adult ticket.
