
Netminder Vay Assigned to Mallards

MOLINE, Ill. - Goaltender Adam Vay have been assigned to the Quad City Mallards by the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild and goaltender Tanner Milliron has been released by the Mallards, the Mallards announced today.
Vay, 22, last season posted a 2.77 goals against average, a .926 save percentage and two shutouts in 39 games with the Hungarian club Debreceni HK in the MOL Liga. The 6-foot-5-inch, 209-pound Budapest native led the league in save percentage and finished fifth in goals against average. In May Vay represented Hungary at the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship in Russia.
"Adam is a very good young goaltender who has excellent size," said Mallards coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. "He is a highly regarded prospect so we're looking forward to him joining the Mallards and we're excited to see him perform for us."
Vay has returned to North America after spending two highly successful seasons with the El Paso Rhinos in the junior A Western States Hockey League in 2013-14 and 2014-15. In his first season in the United States, Vay led the WSHL in goals against average (1.76), save percentage (.936) and shutouts (5) while going 25-1-0. He helped the Rhinos to both the 2014 WSHL Thorne Cup title and the junior A national title. The following season Vay and the Rhinos returned to the WSHL finals after Vay finished the regular season tied for third in the league in shutouts (5), third in save percentage (.923) and fourth in goals against average (2.03) and turned in a record of 28-4-0.
Milliron skated in the Mallards' training camp after signing with team in the offseason following a four-year college career at Wisconsin-River Falls.
The Mallards will open their twentieth season in the Quad Cities Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets at the iWireless Center.
