Nearly a No-No: P-Nats Lose 3-0 in Myrtle

Potomac Nationals News Release

(MYRTLE BEACH, SC) The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were two outs away from the first nine-inning no-hitter in franchise history on Saturday night. Francisco Soriano's one-out single in the ninth inning derailed the Pelicans' run at history, but Myrtle's pitching stole the headlines in a 3-0 Pelicans win. Miguel De Los Santos threw seven no-hit innings and retired the final 21 hitters he faced before he was lifted before the eighth.

Erik Davis was solid in his Potomac debut, but the Pelicans hurlers stole the show. Davis was perfect through the first three innings, and his no-hit bid was ended with two outs in the fifth on an infield single.

Three two-out rallies were the only blemishes on Davis's resume on a night in which he went eight innings and allowed just seven hits.

In the fifth, an unearned Pelicans run broke the scoreless tie. With two outs and Travis Adair - who had walked to open the inning - at first, Santiago Chirino hit a bloop single to left field. Jonathan Roof then hit a line drive to right field that clipped out of Destin Hood's glove and scored Adair.

With two outs in the sixth, the Pelicans struck again. Prince hit a soft single to left and Vinny DiFazio doubled to right to make it 2-0.

In the eighth, Davis hit DiFazio with two outs. He scored after consecutive singles by Adair and Ryan Strausborger and the Pelicans led 3-0.

De Los Santos walked Francisco Soriano and Jose Lozada to open the ballgame, then proceeded to send down the next 21 Potomac hitters. He was lifted after seven innings, having struck out ten and thrown just 92 pitches.

Zach Osbourne pitched a perfect eighth and retired Eury Perez to open the ninth. But Francisco Soriano roped a line drive into right field to end the no-hit bid. Soriano was doubled off at first on Jose Lozada's sharply hit line drive to Roof at second to end the game.

The Nationals and Pelicans play the rubber match in the series Sunday night on the Grand Strand. Evan Bronson makes the start for Potomac against Wilfredo Boscan.
