NBL Canada Finals Arrive Back in Halifax

April 22, 2015 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Halifax Rainmen News Release

(Halifax,NS): The Scotiabank Centre in downton Halifax will be the site of the 2015 NBL Canada Finals this week with Game 3, 4 and 5 on Thursday, Friday and Sunday as the Halifax Rainmen host the defending champion Windsor Express.

The Rainmen tied the best-of-seven series 1-1 with a 100-93 win at the WFCU Centre in Windsor last Friday. The next three games of the series are in Halifax, with Game 6 & 7 slated for Windsor, if necessary.

Either the Rainmen or Express can clinch the championship crown on Sunday in Halifax with 3 consecutive wins. For the Rainmen this is a pressing goal. Last season the Island Storm led the Express 3-1 with Game 5 in PEI, but the Storm did not seize the opportunity to close the series at home, as a result, they lost Games 6 & 7 in Windsor, and the title that was within their grasp. The Rainmen want to take notes from that lesson.

"We all saw what happened last season between Island Storm and Windsor Express, and we want to win a championship here in Halifax in front of our fans and our City." said Rainmen owner Andre Levingston. "Windsor is not the defending champs for no reason, we respect their team immensely, but we know the opportunity that's in front of us, and we want to take advantage of it right here and right now."

"To do so we are going to need the support of all of our fans and the citizens to come out and pack Scotiabank Centre for these 3 games. With the crowd behind our players, I really like our chances to get this done."

The Rainmen under Pep Claros played in the first NBL Canada Finals back in 2012. They won both games at home, the first one on the strength of a miraculous come back in waning seconds, to force a decisive Game 5. But Game 5 was back in London, Ontario and the London Lightning ultimately won the championship late in the game behind a crowd of over 5,000 screaming fans.
