NIXING THE COMPETITION: Houston Rockets two- way guard Daishen Nix was named NBA G League Player of the Week for games played Monday, Jan. 17 through Sunday, Jan. 23. Highlighted by a career-best 34 points against the Austin Spurs on Jan. 19, the NBA G League Ignite alum led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a 3-1 week with averages of 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.8 steals. Nix and the Vipers host the Santa Cruz Warriors tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
CRUISE CONTROL: With three victories this past week, the Motor City Cruise improved to a league-best 7-1. The team is being led in its inaugural NBA G League season by veteran forward/center Cheick Diallo (18.3 ppg, 13.0 rpg) and rookie guard/forward Deividas Sirvydis (18.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg).
BEST OF THE WEST: The top two teams in the West- ern Conference collide when the Agua Caliente Clippers (5-0) host the Iowa Wolves (5-1) on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+. Agua Caliente and Iowa rank first and second in the league in rebounding with averages of 55.0 and 52.5 rebounds per game, respectively. The two teams faced off on Jan. 18, when Agua Caliente defeated Iowa 113-92.
Indiana Pacers guard Keifer Sykes opened eyes with two crucial baskets in overtime on national television against the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 20. In addition to playing internationally, Sykes played 50 games for the Austin Spurs during the 2015-16 season and 13 games for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants during the 2021-22 Showcase Cup. After leading the NBA G League in as- sists during the Showcase Cup, Indiana signed Sykes to an NBA contract on Dec. 27. Later that day, Sykes met with the media to speak about his unique journey to the NBA.
On Jan. 19, Indiana Pacers two-way player Terry Tay- lor led the Fort Wayne Mad Ants with 35 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in a 125-115 win over the Long Island Nets.
Toronto Raptors guard Dalano Banton, playing on assignment with Raptors 905, supplied 33 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in a 116-114 victory over the Cleveland Charge on Jan. 20. Raptors 905 is 7-2 on the season.
Maine Celtics guard Chris Clemons tallied 38 points and five rebounds in a 142-117 victory over the West- chester Knicks on Jan. 22. Clemons is averaging 19.8 points on the season.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III, playing on assignment with the Birmingham Squadron, led his team to its 113-106 victory over the Austin Spurs on Jan. 23 with a double-double of 33 points and 11 rebounds.
