NBA D-League Update
Published on January 7, 2015 under NBA G League (G League) News Release
BIOLOGICAL SPLASH BROTHERS
Stephen Curry is an NBA MVP candidate, leading the league's top team and adding to his highlight reel seemingly every night ... and yet he may not even be the hottest Curry going right now.
That would be younger brother Seth Curry, who has essentially become a minor-league version of his superstar sibling while tearing through the NBA Development League this season.
Seth, who plays for the Erie BayHawks, is averaging 26.3 points, shooting 53 percent from three-point range and is still cooling off from a 43-point explosion on Friday in which he made 14 of 19 shots.
After playing five games in eight days across three cities, Curry finally ran out of gas in Fort Wayne, where he played just 21 minutes on Saturday night, scoring five points on 1-of-8 shooting. But the seven-game roll he ripped off before that -- culminating in Friday night's career-high 43 -- was a thing of beauty, akin to Pierre Jackson's sensational stretch in the NBA D-League last season.
His numbers over those two weeks: 31.6 ppg, 4.9 three-pointers, 59 percent from the field, 53 percent from three, 37-of-39 from the line and 2.0 spg.
PROSPECT REPORT
Quincy Miller, Reno Bighorns -- Miller left Baylor after one season hoping to cash in on some undeniable NBA traits, most notably a rare combination of size (6-9), length, skill and coordination at the small forward position. Things didn't quite go according to plan, beginning with his fall into the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft (selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 38th overall pick). Then there was the matter of having Andre Iguodala, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and Corey Brewer ahead of him on the depth chart, as the Nuggets won an NBA franchise record 57 games in 2012-13, with Miller appearing in seven games. He made more of an impact in 2013-14, appearing in 52 games and averaging 4.9 points. Unfortunately, he went into training camp this season without a guaranteed contract, and was a surprise cut. Miller, who turned 22 in November, reportedly turned down some lucrative overseas offers to sign with the Bighorns in the hopes of making a quick return to the NBA. Miller has thrived in Reno's uptempo system, given his ability to put the ball on the floor and also shoot with range. In nine games, Miller is averaging 25.4 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 49 percent from the field. Miller clearly has NBA talent, and with 10-day contracts already in full swing, he could be next in line.

New York Knicks Sign Langston Galloway from the Westchester Knicks
New York Knicks President Phil Jackson announced today that the team has signed guard Langston Galloway of the NBA D-League's Westchester Knicks to a 10-day contract, marking Westchester's first-ever Call-Up. Galloway, who was named as one of the franchise's Affiliate Players after attending training camp with New York, is the league's 14th Call-Up this season. Galloway (6-2, 200) averaged 16.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.68 steals over 36.8 minutes in 19 games (all starts) for Westchester this season. He was originally signed by New York on Sep. 9, 2014, and waived on Oct. 25, following four seasons at St. Joseph's. Galloway averaged in double figures all four seasons in college and scored 1,991 points, second in Hawks' history. His 334 three-pointers are the most in school history, as are his 132 career starts.
Utah Jazz Signs Elliot Williams from the Santa Cruz Warriors
The Utah Jazz has signed guard Elliot Williams of the Santa Cruz Warriors to a 10-day contract. Williams becomes the NBA's 13th overall NBA D-League Call-Up of the 2014-15 season and the 11th different player to be called up. The 25-year-old Williams (6-5, 190, Memphis) appeared in 16 games (all starts) for Santa Cruz this season, averaging 21.3 points (ninth in the D-League), 4.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists (sixth in the D-League) and 1.3 steals in 37.2 minutes per contest. He recorded five double-doubles and scored in double figures in all 16 games. Williams scored 20-plus points in 10 games and 30-or-more points twice. Williams spent the 2013-14 season with the 76ers appearing in 67 games (two starts) and averaging 6.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He recorded 10-plus points on 17 occasions. Originally selected in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, Williams has played in 91 games (two starts) with Portland and Philadelphia, averaging 5.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game.
Prospect Watch: Week Eight
The window of opportunity has officially opened for NBA D-League prospects. As of Monday, Jan. 5, NBA teams can sign players to 10-day contracts, meaning a stream of Call-Ups should hit over the weeks to come -- beginning with defensive stopper/slasher Elijah Millsap on Monday. Last season, 15 players were called up in a six-week stretch from mid-January to early February.
AROUND THE D-LEAGUE
The Miami Heat has recalled guard Shabazz Napier from it's NBA D-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. In his latest stint, Napier appeared in three games (two starts) and averaged 18.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 40 percent from the field, 47 percent from three-point range and 92 percent from the foul line. He led the team in scoring twice and in rebounds and assists once each while posting two 20-point games. He has now appeared in four games (two starts) with the Skyforce this season, averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 42 percent from the field, 45 percent from three-point range and 81 percent from the foul line. Napier has appeared in 25 games with the Heat this season, averaging 5.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 21.0 minutes while shooting 43 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range ... The Utah Jazz waived guard/forward Patrick Christopher, who was called up by Utah from the Iowa Energy on Dec. 10. Christopher (6-5, 219, California) appeared in four games (one start) for the Jazz, averaging 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 7.3 minutes per game.
