NBA Commissioner David Stern Set to Visit Southwest Florida On Tuesday

March 24, 2005 - NBA G League (G League)
Florida Flame News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla., March 24, 2005 - The Florida Flame of the NBA's Development League will welcome Commissioner David Stern to Southwest Florida on March 29 when the Flame play host to the Fayetteville Patriots. Commissioner Stern plans to arrive in Fort Myers early Tuesday morning and will spend the day touring the city, meeting with clients, visiting the Children's Hospital, and interviewing with local media.

Among the many stops of Commissioner Stern's visit will include a tour of the Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida and the dedication of the newly designed Reading Corner, co-sponsored by the Florida Flame and Edison National Bank. The reading corner, located inside the teen center, is a specially designed room within the Children's Hospital where patients can go to escape the hospital environment. The center will provide patients a place to play video games, shoot pool, and read books, all while interacting with other teenagers. The commissioner, along with hospital and Florida Flame staff, will officially cut the red tape around 3:15 p.m.

Commissioner Stern will also hold a press conference with the local media at 5:15 p.m. in the Florida Room at Germain Arena before the Flame home game versus the Fayetteville Patriots. Local media will have 30 minutes to ask Commissioner Stern about our team, the league, and the future plans for expansion of the NBDL.
