Florida Flame News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla., March 24 - The Florida Flame and the Huntsville Flight did not want to leave the court on Thursday night, as both teams battled out a triple overtime game, the first ever in the NBDL, as Huntsville (22-19) outlasted the Florida Flame 132-128 at Germain Arena. Rodney Bias shattered the league's rebounding record, set by Bias himself earlier this season, with 26 rebounds to add to his 14 points for his twelfth double-double of the season. Carl English led all scorers with 26 points in the loss for the Flame (13-29).
Florida took an early lead behind strong shooting from the entire team. The Flame shot 67-percent from the floor in the first half, gaining a 13 point lead on a Kirk Haston jump shot with 4:52 remaining in the second period. Huntsville battled back, ending the half on a 15-8 run, closing the Flame lead to six at the half, 56-50.
Huntsville gained their first lead of the game at the 10:40 mark of the fourth quarter on an Adam Parada jumper to give the Flight an 82-81 advantage. Both teams batted back and forth in the quarter but the Flight started to pull away after the Flame missed seven consecutive shots later in the period. The Flight gained a six point lead, their largest of the game, with 2:16 to play on a pair of Earl Barron free-throws. But Florida scored the final six points of the fourth to tie the game and send it to overtime.
Both teams battled in the first two overtimes, with neither team gaining a significant advantage.
The third overtime was a different story. Huntsville gained a two point lead on a Rodney Bias follow-up tip shot and never trailed again as the Flight earned the hard-fought 132-128 victory.
The win was the second overtime win for Huntsville this season.
All five starters scored in double-figures for Huntsville. On top of Bias' 14 points, Earl Barron and Cedric Henderson each scored 23 points, and Jason Miskiri and Austin Nichols added 19 apiece.
For the Flame, Darius Rice scored a career high 25 points while Kirk Haston added 17. Smush Parker recorded his fifth double-double with 12 points and 13 assists.
Huntsville continues their road trip with a Saturday showdown against the Roanoke Dazzle. The Flame take to the road for a single game with the Columbus Riverdragons on Saturday. Tip for both contests is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
