Navigators and Suns Make Bet

March 13, 2014 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
North Shore Navigators News Release

Lynn, MA- The start of the 2014 Future's Collegiate Baseball League may still be three months away but that has not cooled off the rivalry between the Pittsfield Suns and the North Shore Navigators. In a joint-statement, both ball clubs have announced they will be waging a friendly bet in the upcoming MIAA Division 3 Girls' Basketball State Championship featuring the Hurricanes of Hoosac Valley High School and the Spartans of St. Mary's in Lynn. The Pittsfield Suns will be supporting the Hurricanes as Hoosac Valley High School is located twenty minutes from Pittsfield in nearby Cheshire, and the Navigators will be supporting the Spartans, who represent the hometown of the Navigators, Lynn.

The game is 10:45 Saturday morning at the DCU Center in Worcester.

Hoosac Valley is coming off an extremely strong season as they will arrive in Worcester with a 23-1 record including their second straight Western Massachusetts crown. The Hurricanes are coming off a nail-biting 54-52 win against the Central Massachusetts Champion, Bellingham. In that game the Hurricanes were led by Jennifer Gale, Meg Rodowicz, and Emily Rosse who scored 12, 13, and 12 points respectively. "We are extremely proud of the Hoosac basketball team for their tremendous season," said Suns' General Manager Kevin McGuire. "It is with great confidence we make this wager with the Navs. Berkshire County sports teams have never let us down in the past and we are sure this time will be no different! GO HURRICANES !"'

The Spartans are coming off one of the best seasons in school history as they will arrive with 23-2 record including their most recent win against defending Division 3 Champion, Archbishop Williams. The Spartans have been led by a senior trio of Sharell Sanders, Brianna Rudolph, and Jennie Mucciarone. This trio has accumulated over 3,000 points during their four year careers. "We are excited that the Suns are joining us for this wager," said General Manager Bill Terlecky. "The Lynn community supports us all year long so we want to return the favor. We are from Lynn and we are proud of it! Go Spartans!"

The bet is as follows:

If Hoosac Valley wins, the Navigators will send the Pittsfield Suns' staff lunch from John's Roast Beef as well as a container of Marshmallow Fluff (which is made in Lynn).

If St. Mary's wins, the Suns will send the Navigators' staff lunch from Mazcot's in Pittsfield.

Just a reminder that season tickets, group tickets, and individual tickets are on sale for both the Suns and Navigators. Please visit www.pittsfieldsuns.com or www.nsnavs.com for more information!
