Navigators 1B Alex Brickman Wins FCBL Player Of The Week
July 27, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
North Shore Navigators News Release
After a week that saw the North Shore Navigators move into fourth place overall in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL), the team got some exciting news about one of their players. Alex Brickman was named the Futures League Player of the Week for his stellar performance over the team's last six games.
"Alex did a great job getting on base this week," said Navigators General Manager Bill Terlecky, "He was one of our most consistent performers and really helped to get the team some wins this week."
Brickman, who is going into his freshman season at Siena College in the Fall, had a terrific week for the Navigators. Playing in six games, Brickman posted a .364 batting average with a ridiculously high on base percentage of .576. He managed to post that high number thanks to the 11 walks that he drew over the course of the week.
One of Brickman's best games came in the team's 16-0 romp over the Torrington Titans. In that game, Brickman went 3-5 and got on base via a walk. His big hit in that game was a monster homer that gave the Navigators the final two runs of the performance. It was his fourth home run of the season, which is good for second on the Navigators team behind Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell). Brickman also managed to double during that game and brought his season total in that category to seven.
Brickman is the second Navigators player to earn the FCBL Player of the Week honor, joining C/1B Mike D'Acunti who was given the honor back in June.
Brickman will look to stay hot into the Navigators three game home stand. They will take on the Bristol Blues on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. game will be a Kid's Day game, as many local camps will be attending the game. The team will also have a Firework Friday game against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks at 7:00 p.m. All of the game will be played at Fraser Field.
