Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
Northwest Arkansas snapped a three-game Hooks winning streak Friday night, knocking off Corpus Christi, 9-5, before 4,677 fans at Whataburger Field.
The Hooks countered the visitor's pair in the first with a five-spot in the home half. Texas A&M product Asa Lacy, newly activated from the injured list, walked five and committed 2 wild pitches while only recording two outs. Shay Whitcomb contributed with a sac fly and Bryan Arias capped the rally via a two-out, two-run single.
The Naturals kept the Hooks at bay the rest of the way. Lefty Emilio Marquez, making his Double-A debut, spun 3 1/3 frames in relief of Lacy. Eric Skoglund picked up the victory with 2 2/3 scoreless innings while Andres Sotillet retired all 7 batters he faced for the save.
Corpus Christi native Nick Loftin went 4-for-5 with 4 runs scored, two doubles and a solo home run out of the lead-off spot for Northwest Arkansas. The Ray High School alum teamed with the Naturals No. 2-4 hitters to go 11-for-17 with five doubles and three walks to generate all nine NW Arkansas runs.
Logan Porter added a fifth-inning home run against Freylin Garcia, who was charged with the loss. Lefty Julio Robaina made the start for CC, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings.
