Naturals' Rally Falls Short

Springdale, AR- The Naturals put the tying run on first base in the ninth inning, but fell just short losing 7-6 on Monday night at Arvest Ballpark. The loss was the eighth straight for the Naturals, the longest such streak in franchise history.

Nate Freiman wasted no time getting the Missions' offense on the board in the top of the first inning. After a Dean Anna lead off double and a Jonathan Galvez single, Freiman crushed his 19th home run of the season to make it a 3-0 game.

The Missions picked up another run in the top of the fourth inning. Jason Hagerty scored from third as the Naturals picked Reymond Fuentes off of first base to make it a 4-0 game.

The Naturals cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth inning. Yem Prades and Rey Navarro started the inning off with back-to-back singles. Brian Fletcher followed with an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1. The Naturals' tacked on another run on an RBI double from Manny Pina to make it 4-2.

The Missions' responded in the top of the sixth getting an RBI double from Hagerty that made it 5-2. Jake Blackwood tacked on an RBI single to give the Missions a four-run lead.

Chris Dwyer (5-8) went five and two-thirds innings for the Naturals allowing seven hits and six runs, while issuing three walks and striking out four. The four strikeouts make Dwyer the Naturals' career franchise leader with 218. He passed Blake Johnson's total of 214 to become the franchise leader.

Andrew Werner (3-8) turned in a good start on the mound for the Missions. The left-hander went five innings allowing nine hits and two runs, while striking out five.

The Naturals offense really got things going in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Naturals got an RBI single from Navarro and a two-run single from Pina to cut the Missions' lead to 6-5. The Missions tacked on a very important insurance run in the top of the eighth inning getting a home run from Cody Decker to make it 7-5.

The Naturals pulled within one in the ninth inning getting a pinch-hit sacrifice fly from Carlo Testa to make it 7-6. The tying run remained at first base, when Jeremy McBryde struck out Alex McClure to end the game. McBryde picked up his ninth save of the season. The Naturals offense fell just one hit short of season high pounding out 16, to the Missions 12.

The Naturals wrap-up their three-game series against the San Antonio Missions tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. The Naturals will send left-hander Noel Arguelles (2-9, 6.78) against the Missions right-hander Josh Geer (3-2, 4.39) The game can be heard on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.
