Wenatchee Wild News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) recorded a natural hat trick with three straight goals in the third period Thursday night to lead the visiting Wenatchee Wild to a 6-0 victory over the Fresno Monsters at Selland Arena in Fresno, Calif. The Wild (26-16-3) clawed into second place in the West Division for the second time in less than a week with the win.

Blake Saylor (Centennial, Colo.) scored the first goal for the Wild at 10:17 of the first frame when he knocked in a rebound off Barber's shot that Monster goalie Luis Puig kicked away. Defenseman Cody von Rueden (Northbrook, Ill.) made the scoresheet by picking up the second assist.

Wenatchee increased its lead to 3-0 with a pair of second-period power-play markers. Tyler Hope (McKinney, Texas) scored the first of those goals at 12:21 when he scored on a rebound. Chris Rumble (Chesapeake, Va.) and Ben Carey (Centennial, Colo.) assisted. The Wild took a 3-goal lead 74 seconds later when Carl-Johan Sjogren (Tumba, Sweden) set up D.J. Vandercook's (Farmington Hills, Mich.) 17th goal of the season. From the far faceoff dot, Sjogren sent a deft pass to Vandercook, who was cutting through the slot, for an easy tap-in. Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) earned the second assist.

Barber dominated the third period, managing to record a natural hat trick in 15 minutes and 57 seconds. His first goal, scored at 7:25, came on a deflection off Hope's snap shot from the top of the far circle. Rumble recorded his second assist of the game on the play.

Barber's second goal, scored at 10:08 of the third, was his craftiest. He picked off a breakout pass near the Fresno blue line, then showcased his speed and scoring touch as he skated in alone on Puig and lofted a shot over his right shoulder. Barber's third goal, notched with 4:03 remaining, came on another redirection, this time off Bradley Shumway's (Lafayette, Colo.) shot.

Barber has recorded six points (4G, 2A) in three games with the Wild since being acquired in a trade last week. Overall on the season, Barber has 47 points (28G, 19A). In addition to Barber, Hope (1G, 1A) and Rumble (2A) also had multi-point games tonight.

Netminder Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, Minn.) made 19 saves for his fifth shutout of the season. It was Jaeger's fourth win in his last five starts. The Wild threw 43 shots at Puig, 37 of which he turned aside. Wenatchee scored three power-play goals on eight chances. Fresno went 0-for-6 on the man-advantage.

The Wild will try to earn its fourth series sweep over the Monsters this season Friday night at 7:35.
