Amarillo Bulls News Release

WICHITA FALLS, TX -- The Amarillo Bulls scored two first period goals, and after that the defense and goaltender Nikifor Szczerba did the rest - in a 2-1 victory over the Wichita Falls Wildcats here on Friday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum.

It was the Bulls 27th win of the season and 12th on the road this season. Despite the victory, the Bulls trail the Texas Tornado by a point for 2nd place in the South Division standings. The two teams meet on Saturday night in Frisco, TX.

Friday's game was a wild affair that included a line brawl at the start of the second period. Brooks Behling, Taylor Ward, newcomers Eric Millisor, Alex Weise and defenseman Luke Jenkins were involved from Amarillo. The best fight was the altercation between Millisor and Richard Young. However, in the first period, Michael Erickson got the evening's festivities started when he took on Drew Allen.

It was another dominating first period for the Bulls as they raced out to a 2-0 advantage. Brandon Lubin wired a shot past Wildcats' goaltender Tyler Green on the power play to open the scoring. Dan McDougall earned the assist on the goal. Zack Smoot potted the second one from Matt Johnson and Luke Jenkins.

The only marker the Wichita Falls Wildcats came in the second period on a power play. After that, the Bulls defense threw a wet blanket over the Wildcats and Szczerba came up with some great saves to preserve the win.

Amarillo outshot Wichita Falls 33-25, including 10-4 in the final period. The Wildcats were 1 for 13 on the power play, while the Bulls were 1 for 7. There was over 180 minutes in penalties.

The road trip for the Amarillo Bulls closes out tomorrow (Saturday) night when they visit the Texas Tornado at 7:30 pm at Dr. Pepper Star Center. Fans can tune into the game live on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com fueled by Sportsjuice.
