The 2019 season will kick off Saturday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. ET as the North Carolina Courage and Chicago Red Stars square off at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. Chicago will get their first opportunity for a rematch against North Carolina, reigning NWSL champions and 2018 NWSL Shield winners, after the Courage defeated the Red Stars in the 2018 semifinal playoff en route to lifting their first NWSL championship trophy. This time, the Red Stars will have the benefit of the 2019 NWSL Draft No. 1 overall selection - Tierna Davidson.
That same day, the Washington Spirit will take on Sky Blue FC at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Two games round out opening weekend on Sunday, April 14 - the Orlando Pride will host the Portland Thorns at Orlando City Stadium, and the Houston Dash will wrap up week one when they host Reign FC at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The home openers continue across the league during week two as three teams open their home campaigns on Saturday, April 20. First, the Chicago Red Stars host the Portland Thorns at Seat Geek Stadium. Next up, Sky Blue FC will take on the Houston Dash at Yurcak Field as the team looks to build from its season finale win in 2018. Finally, Utah Royals FC play their first match of 2019 as they host the Washington Spirit at Rio Tinto Stadium.
On Sunday, April 21, making their debut in their new stadium in Tacoma, Washington, Reign FC will host the Orlando Pride at Cheney Stadium.
Thorns fans will have to wait until Sunday, June 2 for the Portland Thorns to make their home debut against the Chicago Red Stars following the completion of stadium renovations at Providence Park.
The NWSL regular season will take a break from June 3-14 for the group stage of 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup and return the weekend of June 15-16.
The NWSL features a full slate of matches the first weekend after the conclusion of the Women's World Cup in France, and the weekend of July 12-14 could give fans their first chance to see the league's international stars return stateside. Chicago forward and Australia international Sam Kerr has broken numerous records in the NWSL already, and is on track for another standout performance in France. The July 13 match between the Houston Dash and the Red Stars could mark her return in a Chicago kit.
There's also potential for attendance records to be broken in 2019, thanks to the expansion at Providence Park. The Thorns could set a new record on July 14th, when they host the Orlando Pride the weekend after the Women's World Cup.
The 2019 regular season will culminate on October 12, with all teams in action except for the Red Stars, who have a bye week. Playoff berths could be on the line with all four matches of the final week of the regular season set for Saturday night soccer.
The top four teams will advance to the playoffs, which will feature two semifinal matches the weekend of October 19 - 20, and culminate with the 2019 NWSL Championship on October 26.
