Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC â Starting this Sunday, February 2, the nation will be exposed to the "In Your Face Football" action that is Arena Football League. NBC will broadcast up to four AFL games on a regional basis each Sunday, including playoffs and ArenaBowl XVII on June 22, for a possible total of 70 contests.
The local NBC affiliate is WCBD News Channel 2 and games will air at 3:00 pm.
The AFL is the parent league to arenafootball2, which is where the Charleston Swamp Foxes enter their fourth season of competition this year. There are 16 AFL teams set for competition in 2003 while the af2 boasts 27.
"Fans will be able to see more Arena Football League games than ever before because of our NBC agreement," said AFL Commissioner David Baker. "NBC will also expose our great game to a new audience for the first time."
The regional broadcast teams for NBC include former Dallas Cowboy standout Michael Irvin, Redskin's great John Riggins, and former Buffalo Bill linebacker, and Buffalo Destroyers' head coach Ray Bentley.
This Friday, January 31 at 9:30 am, former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, president and CEO of the newly formed Colorado Crush AFL franchise, will be featured on NBC's "Today" show live from Denver. He will be talking with co-anchors Katie Couric and Matt Lauer about the league, his franchise, and the impact of the broadcasts on NBC.
Starting March 27, football fans in the Lowcountry will be able to see exciting arena ball live at the North Charleston Coliseum, with a free exhibition game versus the Macon Knights. Season tickets for the Charleston Swamp Foxes af2 regular season, which begins on April 5, are on sale now.
