Nashville SC to Play Montreal Impact in Preseason

December 21, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release

NASHVILLE - Nashville Soccer Club will get another preseason test against a Major League Soccer (MLS) team when it plays the Montréal Impact in a preseason friendly. The teams will play at the Premier Sports Complex in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. on Feb. 6 as a part of each team's training camp at nearby IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Montréal will become the fifth different MLS team that Nashville SC has played since becoming a professional club, facing Atlanta United FC, the Chicago Fire, and Orlando City SC during preseason friendlies last season. Nashville also beat the Colorado Rapids in the U.S. Open Cup in June of last season. Overall, Nashville SC is 2-1-1 in its four previous games against teams from MLS, the only loss coming against eventual MLS Cup champions, Atlanta.

The Impact just missed the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs last season, finishing 7th (14-16-4, 46 pts) in the Eastern Conference, one spot away from a postseason berth. The Canadian club will return top scorer, midfielder Ignacio Piatti, who bagged 16 goals last season, the sixth-highest total in MLS in 2018. Fellow midfielder and designated player Saphir Taïder was an Opta MLS Best XI player in 2018.

Montréal made one of MLS' biggest offseason moves this month when it acquired forward Maximiliano Urruti from FC Dallas. Urruti scored eight goals and added 11 assists in 2018. One other notable name on the Impact in 2018 was Premier League veteran defender Bacary Sagna. Sagna played 10 season in the EPL, featuring for both Arsenal and Manchester City, while also appearing internationally for France in many major tournaments including the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.

Stay tuned for more to come on this game and other 2019 Nashville SC preseason friendlies throughout the offseason.
