Nashville SC Signs Former MLS Winger Kris Tyrpak for Remainder of Season
August 8, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - After lifting a trophy on Saturday night, winger Kris Tyrpak will join Nashville SC this week as Nashville continues to add offensive weapons. Tyrpak, who has Major League Soccer (MLS) experience, won the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) National Championship on Saturday night with Miami FC.
The club also signed winger Blake Levine from Inter Nashville FC to provide some depth to the squad. Both signings are pending league and federation approval.
KRIS TYRPAK | WINGER | USA
The 26-year-old winger started his professional career in 2014 when he was drafted by Chivas USA of MLS. He made nine MLS appearances as a rookie, scoring his first professional goal against the Colorado Rapids on October 11, 2014.
After Chivas USA folded following the 2014 season, Tyrpak, an Austin, Texas native, went back home to play for the Austin Aztex of the USL. From 2015-2018, Tyrpak made 94 appearances between teams in the USL and the North American Soccer League (NASL), scoring 25 goals. In 2016, while with Swope Park Rangers, Tyrpak was called up to play for Sporting Kansas City of MLS in its CONCACAF Champions League campaign, making one appearance.
Last season and the beginning this year, Tyrpak played for San Antonio FC of USL, appearing in 33 games while scoring seven goals. Tyrpak was San Antonio teammates with Nashville SC captain Michael Reed. He scored one goal with SAFC this season before Miami FC purchased his USL contract.
Gary Smith's Thoughts
"If you look at Kris' background, he provides a couple of things that coming into the last stages of the season can help us push for a playoff spot. He has good experience at this level, and as a predominately wide midfielder, his goalscoring record is pretty decent. It's the goals and the ability to be part of a creative moment that we may well need going into the final stretch. He has a fabulous left foot. My hope is he can get in the side and be a threat in front of goal and he can improve the offense that has been under the microscope lately."
Mike Jacobs' Thoughts
"Kris is a dynamic wide player who can chip in with goals in a variety of different ways. He will provide an added threat to our attack."
BLAKE LEVINE | WINGER | USA
Levine spent this summer with Inter Nashville FC of NPSL, making four appearances at the end of the season and scoring twice. He played for the NPSL club alongside Nashville SC loanees Jordan Dunstan, Michael DeGraffenreidt, Ramone Howell and Ian McGrath.
The 22-year-old prepped at Baker University (Kan.) and graduated in May of 2018. While at Baker, Levine scored 32 goals and recorded 20 assists in 85 games over his four-year collegiate career. As a senior, Levine finished fifth in the nation in NAIA with 14 assists and six game-winning goals.
Before debuting for Inter Nashville, Levine went on trial with the USL's Swope Park Rangers.
Gary Smith's Thoughts
"Blake's an honest and genuine young player. He has some lovely technical ability. It's his first opportunity in a professional environment. If he can harness some of his abilities, he can carve out a future for himself at this club."
Mike Jacobs' Thoughts
"Blake is a grinder, and has the ideal attitude, effort, and commitment of a professional. We are pleased to have him add depth to our midfield."
