Last Time Out
Nashville SC played Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC to a 0-0 draw on Saturday night in a tough defensive affair. Both teams traded chances throughout the first half until a Riverhounds red card changed the dynamic of the match. Despite owning over 70% of the possession in the second half, Nashville SC was unable to find a winner. The draw perpetuated the logjam of five teams at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Scouting Loudoun United FC
Loudoun United FC is the reserve side for MLS' D.C. United. The team currently sits in 15th place in the Eastern Conference, yet is not mathematically eliminated from the postseason. Despite a tough start to its first-ever season in existence, Loudoun has settled in to win seven games so far this season. The club recently moved into its permanent home stadium, Segra Field, and has played well at home since then. Loudoun's current leading scorer is Kyle Murphy with nine goals, although Gordon Wild has made a late push with eight goals in 18 matches.
Storylines to Watch
First Place Within Reach?
After Indy Eleven's loss on the road to Atlanta United 2 on Wednesday night, five teams are within one point of first place in the Eastern Conference. New York Red Bulls II, Indy Eleven and the Tampa Bay Rowdies are tied on points atop the standings at 56 points, with Nashville and Pittsburgh sitting just behind with 55 points. Depending on results around the league on Friday and Saturday, Nashville SC could have the chance to move into first place with a win. Regardless of the other results, earning three points on Saturday would be a massive boost to Nashville's chances of finishing in the top four and earning at least one home playoff match.
Road Glory
Nashville SC has been a particularly strong team on the road this season, and it will play its final road match of the regular season on Saturday night in Virginia. The club has gone 9-4-3 on the road this season and has lost just once on the road since early July. Nashville will look to wrap up its road slate with 10 wins this season.
Cagey vs. Chaos
Nashville and Loudoun's recent runs of form have been very different. Nashville has played mainly cagey and close matches, while Loudoun's matches have been high-scoring and chaotic. In Nashville's last five matches, two of them were decided by 2-1 scorelines, two were decided by 1-0 scorelines and one was a 0-0 draw. Meanwhile, in Loudoun's last five matches, four of them have featured four or more goals scored and only one Loudoun clean sheet.
