Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - Nashville Soccer Club, in conjunction with Major League Soccer, announced today the schedule for the club's inaugural season in 2020. Presented by Renasant Bank, Nashville's inaugural match against Atlanta United on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. CT at Nissan Stadium will be nationally televised on FOX.
Nashville SC will enter MLS as a Western Conference team playing a total of 34 games, 17 home and 17 away. The Boys in Gold will face all inter-conference opponents twice, each home and away, for a total of 24 matches. The additional 10 regular season matches in 2020 will be played against a selection of Eastern Conference sides, except for Chicago Fire FC, Montreal Impact and New York Red Bulls who will not face Nashville in the club's inaugural season.
"After such a long period of time from Nashville winning its bid to be a Major League Soccer City to today, seeing who we will play and when, in our city and on the road, really brings home the fact that the season is almost upon us," said Nashville SC CEO Ian Ayre.
"What a great reward for everyone in Nashville to know that our local rivals Atlanta United and the current MLS Cup winners Seattle Sounders will be in town right at the start of our inaugural season. It's truly a chance to see some of the best soccer available in the United States right here and now," concluded Ayre.
Nashville SC will welcome high-powered Western Conference opponents throughout the season. Two-times and reining Audi MLS Cup Champions and four-time Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Champions Seattle Sounders FC will be the first Western side to visit Music City on Friday, Apr. 3 in a nationally televised match on FS1.
Following the Sounders, fans will be treated to Western Conference clashes against MLS Cup Champions and three-time U.S. Open Cup Champions Sporting KC on Apr. 11, the 2015 MLS Cup Champions and 2018 MLS Cup Finalist Portland Timbers on July 5, and 2019 Supporters Shield Champions LAFC on July 22, among many others.
As it pertains to Eastern Conference opponents, and following the club's inaugural match against Atlanta United, Nashville SC will host some of the most powerful sides in that group. In addition to five-time MLS Cup Champions D.C. United on Apr. 18, fellow 2020 expansion side Inter Miami CF will visit Nashville on May 3, a FS1 nationally televised contest. Philadelphia Union will follow suit on May 13 as the final Eastern Conference opponent to stop by Music City in 2020.
The home finale for Nashville SC will feature a Western Conference clash on Sep. 26 against five-time MLS Cup Champions Los Angeles Galaxy. The 2020 season finale will then see Nashville on the road for MLS Decision Day against the two-time MLS Cup Champions and three-time MLS Cup Finalist in the past four years Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field on Oct. 4
