Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce their 12th player signing of the 2016 offseason. Wheeling has signed defenseman Kyle Flemington to an ECHL contract.

Flemington, 24, will make his North American professional debut this season, after spending each of the last two years playing in Scotland with the Edinburgh Capitals of the Elite Ice Hockey League. During the course of those two seasons, Kyle appeared in a total of 99 games, accumulating three goals, 18 assists, 21 points, and 243 penalty minutes. His 99 penalty minutes in 2014-15 ranked third on the team, while his 144 minutes in the box this past year ranked second on the club and seventh in the league.

"Kyle Flemington is a big, tough, solid, defensive defenseman, who comes to us, after getting a chance to spend two years playing in a tough league in England," said Nailers Head Coach Jeff Christian. "He played in a good junior organization, was recommended to us, and his style of play is one that the Wheeling fans will enjoy."

Prior to his time in Europe, the Parkhill, Ontario native played parts of four seasons of junior hockey in the OHL, in addition to parts of three seasons in the GOJHL. Flemington's OHL time was split between the Saginaw Spirit, Sarnia Sting, and London Knights, as he appeared in 117 games. In 2012-13, Kyle played with the St. Marys Lincolns and St. Thomas Stars of the GOJHL, combining for 14 points and 121 penalty minutes. At 6-foot-7, the blueliner's strengths come from his play in his own zone.

"Last year, I had a couple of friends who played on the Nailers, and they had a lot of good things to say," Flemington said. "Wheeling has proven itself as a winning organization, and I believe we have what a team needs to be successful. Personally, I see myself as a big, tough, stay-at-home defenseman, who loves blocking shots, and doesn't mind dropping the gloves."

Kyle Flemington and the Wheeling Nailers will open the 2015-16 season on October 15th, when they play host to the Brampton Beast at 7:05.
