Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers and Wheeling Hospital announce today that they have hired new athletic trainer Jerry Duncan for the 2005-06 season.
Duncan replaces former athletic trainer Dave Hanna who was with the team for six seasons. Hanna is leaving the team to pursue his Doctorate at Wheeling Jesuit University.
Duncan is a certified Athletic Trainer and will work primarily with the Wheeling Nailers, while also assisting with local high school football and working within the Wheeling Hospital Rehabilitation Clinic.
A specialist in the prevention, recognition and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by athletes, he will specialize in athletic health care. Duncan will attend all practices, travel with the team and use his knowledge of injuries incurred by the players to develop treatment programs based on medical, exercise, and sports sciences.
The 26 year-old native of New Kensington, PA attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA. He studied in their sports training program, after finishing two years of football at the school due to injury. During his four years at Mercyhurst Duncan worked with the Men's and Women's Division 1 hockey programs.
"Dave Hanna will be missed throughout the organization," commented Rob Brooks, president of the Wheeling Nailers. "Hanna was well liked by everyone in the organization and always represented the {Nailers} team with professionalism," Brooks concluded.
