Wheeling Nailers News Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 13TH, 2016 CONTACT: DJ ABISALIH DJABISALIH@WHEELINGNAILERS.COM Krause, Nailers Cruise Past Brampton, 5-2 Wheeling Wins Fourth Straight and Sixth in the Last Seven BRAMPTON, ON- The Wheeling Nailers took their winning ways out of the country on Sunday afternoon, as they battled the Brampton Beast at Powerade Centre. Adam Krause rose as the hero in the third period, as he broke a 2-2 tie, then added an insurance tally, giving himself three goals in two games, as the Nailers handed the Beast their second regulation loss of the campaign, 5-2. Wheeling has won four straight games, and six of its last seven.
The first period featured plenty of action, including three goals, as the Nailers had themselves a 2-1 lead when the buzzer sounded. The first tally came 30 seconds after a penalty expired. Jordan Kwas took the puck off of the right wall, then centered a pass to Kevin Schulze, who stepped in and connected from the left side of the slot. Schulze was also involved in the second Wheeling goal, as he launched a pass up the right side to Derek Army. Army flew into the zone, blasting in a slap shot from the right circle. Brampton got on the scoreboard 14 seconds after that, trimming the margin to one. Luke Pither poked the puck to the front, where Chris Auger redirected the feed into the top-left corner of the cage.
After a scoreless second period, the goals picked up again in the third. The Beast knotted the score at the 7:46 mark, when Connor Crisp picked up a loose puck off of a Mike Vernace shot, and deposited it in with his backhand. The Nailers had an immediate answer 53 seconds later, regaining the lead. Adam Krause drove down the right side of the zone, faked, then took a shot, which banged off of the left post on its way into the goal. With 7:49 remaining, Krause cashed in with his second of the afternoon. While playing on the man advantage, Brett Stern took a wrist shot from the right point, which was tipped in by Krause on the left side of the crease. Cody Wydo stole the puck and tossed in an empty netter in the last minute, giving the Nailers the 5-2 win.
