Nailers Announce 2016 Preseason Schedule

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced their schedule for the 2016 preseason. Wheeling will play two games against the Cincinnati Cyclones, with one contest taking place in each city.
Wheeling will play host to the preseason opener at WesBanco Arena, which will take place on Thursday, October 6th at 7:05. The following night, the Nailers and Cyclones will make their way to US Bank Arena, where they will drop the puck at 7:30 on Friday, October 7th.
At 232 miles, Cincinnati serves as the closest geographical opponent for the Nailers, which has created a tremendous rivalry that will enter its 14th season in the fall. Wheeling got the upper hand against the Cyclones during the 2015-16 campaign, earning seven of eight possible points with a 3-0-1 record. One of those victories came in the memorable Education Day Comeback, when the home team lit the lamp five times in a span of 4:10 in front of a sellout crowd of 5,511 at WesBanco Arena. The all-time series has seen 115 games played, and the Nailers hold the advantage in that as well, earning 59 wins to Cincinnati's 56. The two sides will get together on four occasions in 2016-17, with Wheeling playing at home on December 22nd and January 8th, and the Nailers traveling to the Queen City on October 22nd and February 2nd.
This will be the third consecutive year that the Nailers and Cyclones will do battle during the preseason, as well as the second straight exhibition slate that features a home game for each club.
The 25th season of professional hockey in Wheeling will begin on October 15th at 7:05, when the Nailers play host to the Brampton Beast on Opening Night.
