Nailers Announce 2015-16 Promotional Schedule
October 1, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are thrilled to announce their 2015-16 promotional schedule. Celebrities and giveaways are two of the most noteworthy aspects of the promotional schedule, while the traditional Post Game Skate With the Team and Flat Screen Fridays are popular returning events.
After starting the regular season with two games on the road, the Nailers will play their home opener on October 24th against Brampton, looking to surpass last season's mark of 4,754 from a 6-3 win over Reading. Prior to the gates opening, there will be a fan fest taking place in front of the arena, starting at 4:30, which includes a pre game concert by Bon Journey. Once the doors open, all fans in attendance will receive a magnetic schedule.
Wheeling will then play a pair of games on Halloween Weekend, with an adult costume contest on the 30th, followed by a kids costume contest and backpack giveaway on the 31st. However, the best costumes of the weekend may come from Saturday's guests - the Zooperstars, who will make their debut at WesBanco Arena.
November's first big game will be the Education Day Field Trip Game, when the puck drops at 10:35 am on Tuesday the 10th. Local area schools have already committed to have over 4,000 students take in the game, with all fans young and old receiving thundersticks. Later that week, the Nailers will play three more home games, highlighted by College Football Night on Saturday the 14th. Thanksgiving Eve Turkey Bowling and Military Appreciation Night will conclude the second month of the campaign.
The force will be in WesBanco Arena to start December, as Star Wars characters will make an appearance on Saturday the 5th, while the Nailers will be wearing specially designed Star Wars jerseys. The annual Teddy Bear Toss will also take place that evening, following the first goal scored by the home team. On Saturday the 12th, the Hanson Brothers from the movie "Slap Shot" will bring their antics to the ECHL, and a team trading card set will be distributed to the first 2,000 fans, to complement that evening's post game autograph session. Additionally, after a one-year hiatus, the New Year's Eve Game has returned, and WesBanco Arena will be ringing, with cow bells for the first 2,500 fans through the doors.
As the calendar turns over to 2016, the promotions continue to come fast and furious. Following last season's success, princesses will return to Wheeling on Saturday, January 9th, but this time, pirates will also be a part of the fun on Girl Scout Night. The first 2,000 fans in the building on the 9th will receive a Nailers Cheer Scarf. Two weeks later, the Nailers will play three games in three days in the Friendly City on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, with the annual Pink in the Rink Game scheduled for the 23rd, to go along with Ladies Night. To put that night over the top, Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Neil Walker will also be on hand, signing autographs.
The Nailers will "kick off" a quick five-game home month of February by bringing the gridiron to the ice, as former Pittsburgh Steeler Brett Keisel will help tackle the competition brought out by the Reading Royals at the 8:05 game on Saturday the 6th. That is also the annual Boy Scout Night Game, and the first 2,500 fans will receive rally towels. Later that month, on the 27th, Disney Night will take place.
March and April will contain the final seven home games of the 2015-16 regular season, and three fan favorite promotions will take place during that stretch. Duck Dynasty Night is back for its third year, and this time around, Si Robertson will be the guest on Saturday, March 12th. Fans will be invited to bring their dogs to the game on Sunday, March 13th for Pucks 'N Pups, and don't be fooled by any hot wings during the April 1st Wing Fest. Biker Night will also take place on April Fool's Day, which will start with a motorcycle ride to the game from Valley Harley Davidson. Soccer Appreciation Night wraps up the slate on Friday, April 8th.
All Friday home games will be Flat Screen Fridays and Frosty Fridays, in which one lucky fan will walk away from each game with a new flat screen television, and $1 beers will be available for all fans 21 years of age and older. Most Saturdays will feature a player signing autographs after the game, while all Sunday home contests will be followed by a post game skate with the team. $5 kids tickets will be available for all weekday and Sunday games, while McDonald's Friends & Family tickets will be available for select games.
