Nagasaka Leads Pride To The Can Am League Finals With A 4-0 Triumph In New Jersey
September 9, 2007 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
Working on just three days rest, Pride righthander Hideki Nagasaka worked seven shutout innings as Nashua advanced to the Can Am League Championship Series by winning the fifth and decisive game of the semi-final series, a 4-0 triumph over the New Jersey Jackals Sunday evening at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Pride will host the North Shore Spirit in the opener of the title series on Tuesday night at 6:35 at Historic Holman Stadium.
Nagasaka worked into the eighth inning allowing just four singles, walking one and striking out two. The only walked issued by Nagasaka was to Guillermo Reyes leading off the eighth inning for the Jackals. Pride manager Butch Hobson decided to take Nagasaka out of the game at that point in favor of Steve Palazzolo who was able to retired New Jersey in the eighth on a double play grounder and a strikeout. Rich Garces allowed two hits but no runs in the ninth to nail it down for Nashua.
As it turned out, the Pride scored the only run they would need when John Ramistella opened the ballgame with a line drive home run over the left field fence off New Jersey starter and loser John Kelly. It was the third home run of the series for Ramistella. Two batters later, Chris Colabello took Kelly deep to left center field for his second home run of the playoffs.
Nashua scored two more runs off Kelly in the fourth when Jack Joffrion stroked a one out, two-run double to right center field scoring Luis Rodriguez and Austin Wasserman.
Kelly lasted six innings, allowing seven hits, four runs (all earned), walking three and striking out seven. Kelly was the first of four New Jersey pitchers used in the ballgame.
Tickets for the Can-Am League Championship Series are available at (603) 883-2255 (BALL). It is anticipated that the Pride will send righthander Akira Okamoto (9-2, 2.88) to the mound for the first game of the series against North Shore on Tuesday night. Okamoto was the winning pitcher in game two of the semi-final series against New Jersey. All Pride post season games can be heard on the Internet at www.nashuapride.com or www.canamleague.com.
