WINNIPESAUKEE - The Mystic Schooners finished the regular season with the NECBL's best record Tuesday night with a 16-13 win in twelve innings over the Muskrats at Robbie Mills Field.
The game picked up in the second inning because it was rained out about a week ago. The Muskrats were already on top 1-0 but it did not take long for the Schooners to tie it up. With two outs and Aaron Hill on third, Kyle Hartenstein picked up an RBI single to tie it up at one.
Winnipesaukee would take the lead right back with a solo home run in the bottom of the second to really start off what would turn into a wild game.
The Schooners went off for a big six run fourth inning where they hit two home runs. After Scotty Bradley led off the inning with a base hit, Casey baker sent a two-run homer over the fence. Ryan Ramiz followed that by reaching on an error and Tysh Terashima lined one up the middle to bring in Ramiz. Toby Handley singled to keep the hot inning going to set up Nick Mascelli with two men on. Mascelli sent his second home run of the season over the left-center field fence to cap off the inning and give the Schooners a 7-2 lead.
Winnipesaukee would get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth as they started to chip into the lead slowly but surely.
Scotty Bradley led off the fifth with a huge solo home run for his first of the year. In the sixth, Rich Slenker hit an RBI fielder's choice to drive in a run. Bradley came through again with an RBI base hit to bring the score to 10-2. Bradley finished 4-for-5 on the night with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
The Muskrats really started to claw their way back into the game in the seventh. Four runs came across on just two hits.
For the Schooners, Casey Baker got an RBI single in the eighth to make the score 11-8 going to the bottom of the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Muskrats got two men on for Keivan Berges who launched a three run home run to tie the game at 11 and eventually send the game to extras.
In the eleventh inning, Nick Mascelli drove in two runs with a single. But the Muskrats answered right back with two runs of their own off the bat of Berges to tie it at 13.
The Schooners would pull away for good in the twelfth with three runs that were highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of Alex LeFevre.
With the win the Schooners finish with an NECBL best 29-15 record and will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Mystic will host the New Bedford Bay Sox on Wednesday to start the first round of the playoffs. First pitch at the Shipyard is scheduled for 6:05.
