
Myers Stops 49, Rays' Sting Bulls Again 4-3

AMARILLO, TX - The Corpus Christi IceRays, despite being banged up with only 17 skaters beat the NAHL leading Amarillo Bulls yet again, this time in a shootout 4-3 on Saturday night backed by 49 saves by Ben Myers inside the Amarillo Civic Center.
After no scoring in the first period, Rudy Sulmonte found Mike Economos in front of the net who deflected the pass into the net giving Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead just 12 seconds into the middle period.
Jalen Schulz put the IceRays up 2-0 when the puck came out to the top of the right wing circle. Schulz stepped into a shot and beat Collin Delia at 7:48 of the second assisted by Brandon Berkley and Beau Walker.
Amarillo mounted a comeback at 8:55 as TJ Sarcona sent a puck to the net that goaltender Ben Myers did not see until it was in the net and the Bulls were on the board trailing 2-1.
The game tying strike came at 14:23 when Ryan Cole fired a shot from the top of the circles over the shoulder of Myers off of a Gage Christianson pass to pull the game even at two goals apiece.
Beau Walker regained the lead 3-2 for the Rays' on a wrister just 22 seconds later assisted by Rudy Sulmonte and Wayland Williams.
Amarillo stuck around as John Rey let a shot go from the point on the power-play at 16:44 of the second frame to tie the game and eventually force overtime.
A shootout commenced and Corpus Christi scored three times in the shootout while Ben Myers stood ground and the Rays' picked up a 4-3 win. Charles Baldwin, Emil Romig, and Brandon Smith all scored.
Ben Myers was on fire denying 49 of 52 shots in the win.
The IceRays are on the road next weekend as they take on the Odessa Jackalopes. Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on 91.1FM KSGR, ksgr.org, ustream.com, and fasthockey.com.
