January 19, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI - Saturday's loss to the the Jamestown Ironmen marked the third time Kalamazoo has fallen to Jamestown in the 2012-2013 season in three meetings. Each time, these teams have gone into at least overtime, and each time, Kalamazoo has lost by the score of 3-2.

The first period started a little slow offensively, but at the 12:10 mark, Dylan Zink (9th) was able to take advantage of rebound by the Nicholas Sierra shot and put the Ironmen on the board.

With intermission nearing, Tyler Minx (2nd) was able to fire a shot through traffic from the point that found the back of the net to give Jamestown the 2-0 lead heading into the locker room.

In the second period, the Jr. K-Wings fought back to cut into the Ironmen lead. On the power play, from behind the Ironmen net, Robbie Payne was able to throw the puck into the slot where Taylor Burden (14th) was able to drive home the one timer and cut the deficit in half. This would prove to be the lone goal of the second period, and after forty minutes, the Jr. K-Wings trailed the Ironmen by the score of 2-1.

Early in the third period, Kalamazoo was able to even the score when Danny Hamburg (11th) took advantage of the perfectly placed Christian George pass and scored the game-tying goal.

As with the previous two games these teams had played this season, 60 minutes was not enough time to decide a winner. Overtime also did not yield a result, so, for the second time this year, these two teams went to a shootout. Each team failed to score on their first four opportunities, but the Ironmen's Tyler Minx changed that when he was able to put one by Marcus Due-Boje. Mac McDonnell had an opportunity to extend the shootout for the Jr. K-Wings, but was able to sneak one past Tim Shaughnessy.

After today's contest, Jamestown is now tied with Soo for first place in the NAHL North Division. Kalamazoo is in third place, five points behind the co-leaders.
