Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - The Canadian Hockey League in association with National Hockey League Central Scouting announced today that Tri-City Americans forward Sasha Mutala has been selected as one of 40 players that will compete in the 2019 Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
The 24th annual showcase of the CHL's top prospects eligible for the NHL Draft will be played on Wednesday January 23, 2019, at the ENMAX Centrium, home of the Western Hockey League's Red Deer Rebels. The 40 competing players were chosen by NHL clubs and include talent from across the WHL, the Ontario Hockey League, and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
"The Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game provides scouts and general managers the unique opportunity to evaluate talent competing in a best-on-best showcase," said Dan Marr, NHL Central Scouting Director. "All 31 NHL clubs contributed to the roster selection and take great interest in seeing this event unfold and which players can elevate their game under the spotlight."
In 27 games this season, Mutala has recorded seven goals and ten assists. He received a 'B' ranking from NHL Central Scouting on both their October and November 'Players to Watch' list for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, which indicates a potential second or third round draft selection.
"We would like to Congratulate Sasha and wish him all the best as he participates with the other top NHL Draft Prospects for the 2019 NHL Draft being held in June in Vancouver, BC," said Americans General Manager Bob Tory.
Mutala is the ninth Tri-City Americans player selected to the participate in the game. The 17-year-old follows Michael Rasmussen (2017), Juuso Välimäki (2017), Brandon Carlo (2015), Eric Comrie (2012), Chet Pickard (2008), Carey Price (2005), and Scott Gomez (1998).
