New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
The New Bedford Bay Sox failed to win their third game in a row Wednesday night at Robbie Mills Field, losing to the Laconia Muskrats 10-2.
The Bay Sox kept it close until the bottom of the seventh.
New Bedford made it 3-1 on a Chris Shaw (Boston College) RBI single in the top of the sixth, and added another run in the seventh with a 2-out double from Ryan Plourde (Fairfield) to make it 3-2. That's all the Bay Sox could muster off of Laconia's pitching staff.
In a 3-2 game, Laconia added 3 insurance runs in the bottom of the 7th to make it 6-2.
Jake Peavyhouse (Arizona State) had an RBI single to centerfield to make it 4-2. Joey Bilek (Arizona State) followed that with an RBI double down the right field line, and Peavyhouse scored on a wild pitch from Bay Sox reliever Tucker Forbes (UCLA).
The Muskrats scored four more in the eighth inning to make it 10-2. Two of those runs came from a 2-run home run by Bilek.
The Muskrats pitching staff kept the Bay Sox bats in check.
Laconia's starter Nevin Wilson (Vanderbilt) allowed 1 run on 3 hits and had 5 strikeouts in 5 and 2/3 innings pitched.
The Muskrats bullpen allowed 1 run and 2 hits in 3 and 1/3 innings pitched.
Bay Sox starter Graig Weber (Bradley) struggled in his first start of the season. Weber lasted 1 and 1/3, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits.
Laconia scored the first run of the game without a hit.
Weber started the game by walking the leadoff hitter Joe Torres (Iona). Torres moved to second on a fielder's choice, stole third, and scored on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0.
Laconia added two more runs in the second inning to make it 3-0, and ended Weber's day on the mound. Torres had an RBI single with runners on first and third, and Jordan Lee (Vanderbilt) followed with an RBI double to center. Brendan O'Rourke (Franklin Pierce) replaced Weber with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and was able to get out of the jam.
The game was called after eight innings due to lightning.
The Bay Sox move to 11-19 on the season and play a doubleheader against Saratoga at Paul Walsh Field tomorrow. First pitch of game 1 scheduled at 4:30 PM. First pitch of game 2 scheduled at 6:30 PM.
