It is with great sadness that the Sioux City Musketeers share the news of the tragic passing of former Musketeers goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks on July 4th, 2021 at the age of 24 as the result of a tragic accident. The Riga, Latvia native backstopped the Musketeers to the USHL Clark Cup final in the 2016-2017 season.
"We're devastated by the loss of our brother and teammate", said 2016-17 Musketeers captain Jacob Wilson. "Kivs was a good friend to all of us, and a guy that made it fun to come to the rink every day".
"The Musketeers family is shocked by Matiss' passing" said Lloyd Ney, Managing Partner of the Sioux City Musketeers. "Our love goes out to his mother, Astrida, and his family during this time of great sadness. Kivs' kind personality and fun loving attitude was only matched by his focus and determination in the net.
