Sioux City Musketeers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA-After ten years and nearly $500,000 raised for breast cancer the Musketeers' annual cancer awareness game is going purple (lavender to be specific). Starting this season Pink in the Rink will officially become Cross Check Cancer night. The game will still be a joint event between the Musketeers and UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's but will now raise awareness and funds for all types of cancer.
The biggest reason for the change is that both the Musketeers and UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's felt a strong need to raise more awareness for all types of cancer. Nearly one-third of people in the U.S. develop cancer in their lifetime. With that in mind both UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's and the Musketeers felt it was time to expand the event to include all cancers. Pink in the Rink has always done a fantastic job of raising breast cancer awareness and raising money for the cause. That success was another big factor in both organizations' decision to broaden the scope of the event.
The biggest changes fans will notice will be instead of pink ice, pink jerseys and pink ribbons dotting the arena everything will now be lavender. The Musketeers will continue the tradition of honoring a cancer survivor during the ceremonial puck drop as well as having members of UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's give a speech during the intermission to highlight the struggle cancer patients face every day and what you can do to help.
Cross Check Cancer night will take place on October 27th when the Musketeers take on the Sioux Falls Stampede. Single game tickets will be available on October 1st, season tickets are available now! For more information on the event or ticketing visit Musketeershockey.com or call (712)252-2116.
