January 21, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux City Musketeers News Release

Sioux City, Iowa - The Sioux City Musketeers have acquired forward Joel L'Esperance, affiliate defenseman Logan Fauber, and an 8th round pick in Phase 2 of the USHL Draft from the Tri City Storm. In the exchange, affiliate forward Jake Wahlin goes to the Storm along with the Musketeers 2 nd and 7th round picks in Phase II of the USHL Draft, as well as a player to be named later.

L'Esperance, ranked 3rd in goals scored thus far in the 2013-14 USHL season, was drafted 41st overall by the Des Moines Buccaneers in the 2011 USHL Futures Draft. He was acquired by the Storm on February 7, 2012 in a trade with the Buccaneers.

The high scoring forward comes to Sioux City with two years of USHL experience under his belt. In 2012-13, he scored 10 goals and 9 assists in 49 games. He's almost doubled that total this season by racking up 21 goals and 13 assists in 35 games with the Storm this season.

The 6'2, 201 pound forward has twice been named the USHL's CCM Forward of the week this season for performances in the weeks of December 2-8, and again for the week of December 9-15. He scored a season high 4 goals for the Storm in a December 7th game against Cedar Rapids. He followed that performance with a hat trick against Youngstown the following week. L'Esperance comes to the Musketeers ranked 3rd in the USHL's shots taken category. He also brings 6 power play goals and 2 game winning goals into the statistical mix for the Musketeers.

"We felt like we needed to make an addition to our group this year in order to make a push for the playoffs in the Western Conference" stated General Manager Luke Strand in reference to the newly acquired forward. "Logan is a young defenseman that we feel can help us with our depth in the organization at that position."

Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jay Varady was pleased with the added firepower to this years team. "Joel is a big right shot forward that should help our all-around game. We're looking forward to adding his shoot first mentality and his physical play on the defensive side of the puck."

L'Esperance, slated to play collegiately at Michigan Tech next season, will arrive in Sioux City on Tuesday, January 21st and is expected to play in this weekend's lone game against Omaha on Friday night. He will wear number 22.
