Muskegon hold off Mallards, 5-4, in shootout

Moline, IL â Despite tying a team season-high with 53 shots on goal, the Quad City Mallards were only able to earn one standings point, as Muskegon escaped with a 5-4 shootout win on Saturday at The MARK of the Quad Cities.
The Mallards (23-14-3) were 0-for-10 on the power play, including three 5-on-3 advantages. They have converted just 2-of-29 power play attempts (6.9%) over the last six games.
The league's most productive line put Muskegon (27-11-4) up 1-0 early in the first period, with Robin Bouchard scoring his league-leading 35th goal, assisted by Brant Blackned and Todd Robinson. D Matt Libby picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, carried it in front of the net and scored unassisted to tie it at 9:13. Libby has six points (2g, 4a) and a +8 plus/minus rating in the last four games.
Lanny Gare gave the Mallards a 2-1 lead early in the second, wristing a shot past G Sylvain Daigle (49 saves) off a rebound. Gare has a five-game point-scoring streak (3g, 3a, 6pts). Blackned's power play goal tied it. Then Freddy Jobin's shorthanded goal, on a feed from Jason Sessa, gave the Ducks the lead back at 3-2 after two. Jobin tied Brian LaFleur for the all-time record for a Mallards defenseman with his fourth career shorthanded goal.
The Fury scored twice in 2:07 midway through the third to take a 4-3 lead. Jeff Williams scored shorthanded to tie it with 1:38 left when his wide-angle shot caromed off D Garry Toor's skate into the Fury net. Williams extended his point-scoring streak to five straight games (5g, 1a, 6pts). After Jon Francisco scored in the third round of the shootout for a 1-0 edge, Robinson and Bouchard found the net to take the shootout for the Fury, 2-1.
The Mallards get right back into action at The MARK for Iowa Wireless Family Fun-Day Sunday against the Port Huron Beacons at 4:00 p.m. Bugs Bunny will be there to meet his many fans!
