Murfreesboro Musicians News Release
The Murfreesboro Musicians drafted the rights to three outstanding big men from the college basketball ranks in the annual WBA Draft that was conducted late Thursday afternoon.
With the 6th overall pick in the first round of the two round 2006 WBA College Draft the Musicians selected Elgrace Wilburn (6'9-245-Center/Power Forward) of Western Kentucky University. Wilburn averaged 8.6 ppg & 6.1 rpg this past season in helping lead WKU to a 23-8 record and to the regular season Sun Belt Conference Championship. Western Kentucky also played in the NIT Tournament, where they were eliminated in the first round. Wilburn also participated in this year's College Slam Dunk Contest that was held at this year's Final Four in Indianapolis, IN, and he excited fans with several high flying dunks in the dunk contest.
In the Second Round, the Musicians picked up an extra draft pick by trading its fourth & fifth picks from the WBA Tryout Camp Draft that was held past Saturday in Marietta, GA, where the WBA Tryout Camp was put on by the Developmental Professional Basketball League. With the third pick of the Second Round which was acquired from the Cleveland Majic of Cleveland, TN, the Musicians selected local collegiate player from Vanderbilt University, Julian Terrell. Terrell averaged 10.1 ppg & 7.2 rpg in leading Vandy to a 16-11 record. With the sixth pick of the second round, the Musicians went after Greg Brunner, who is a 6'9-250-Center/Power Forward from the University of Iowa. Brunner led the Hawkeyes in scoring this season with a 14.1 average and was one of the best rebounders in the Big 10 Conference with a 9.2 rebound average per game. Brunner also helped Iowa win the Big 10 Conference Tournament.
"We feel very good about our Tryout Camp & College Draft! We've helped our team with the selections that we've made and we have drafted some players that will come in here and play. I think people will be very surprised with the caliber of players that we've recruited here and drafted to be a part of this season's Musicians Pro Basketball Team." states Murfreesboro Musicians Head Coach, Steve Tucker.
