Murray Pitches Glens Falls to Key Win Over Dutchmen

Glens Falls, N.Y.-The Glens Falls Dragons and Albany Dutchmen (18-24) began a home and home series at East Field Wednesday night separated by just two games in the race for the final playoff spot in the PGCBL East. The Dragons have owned the Northway Subway Series this season, and that didn't change in this one as they came away with the 3-1 victory. New Head Coach Colter Bostick earned his first win at the Dragon's helm.
Glens Falls struck first against Albany starter Jon Reid (Azusa Pacific) in the bottom of the first. Danny Oliveri (Triton) led off the frame by reaching on a fielding error. After Mark Powell (Bucknell) moved Oliveri over with a bunt, Brennan Price (Felician) then sliced a single to left, but Oliveri was forced to hold at third. Oliveri did however come in to score, giving the Dragons the 1-0 lead on ground ball out by Jake Vieth (Tacoma CC).
The Dragons added a run in the second when Matt Flynn (St. Anselm) and Donovan Christman (Lynn University) led off with back to back walks. Harrison Bragg then moved them into scoring position with a well placed sacrifice bunt. Flynn crossed the plate to give Glens Falls a two run lead after a throwing error by the Dutchmen on a ground ball to short off of the bat of Oliveri.
Glens Falls increased their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth as Matt Kleinstein (Felician) blasted a solo home run to straight-away centerfield. It was the first home run of the season for Kleinstein.
The Albany bats finally came to life in the top of the seventh against Glens Falls starter Jake Murray (Rhode Island College). Murray had only given up a pair of hits in the first six innings, and had not allowed the Dutchmen more than one runner on base in an inning. That changed though when Jack Weiller (Virginia) launched a double to the right-centerfield gap to lead off the inning. Weiller would score the first run for Albany on a single by Dominic DiCaprio (Rice) to cut the Dragon's lead to 3-1.
It looked as though the Dragons might tack on some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Bryce Aldridge (University of Indianapolis), and Matt Flynn (St. Anselm) earned a base on balls and Bragg was hit by a pitch to lead the bases with one away. Albany reliever Blake Allen worked out of the jam however, inducing a ground ball for a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play.
Glens Falls used a pair of relievers to bring them home. Mike Sinnott (NYIT) pitched the eighth, striking out three Dutchmen. Robert Hardy (Binghamton University) worked a perfect ninth to earn the save, his third of the year. Hardy was aided on the first out of the inning when Bragg, the right fielder made an outstanding diving catch in foul territory.
Murray (1-2) picked up the win for Glens Falls. He went seven innings, giving up just four hits, while striking out three, while walking just one. Reid (4-3) took the loss for the Dutchmen.
Oliveri finished 2 for 4 for Glens Falls. Adam Gauthier (Dartmouth) had a pair of hits for Albany.
