March 2, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release

Rockville, MD - As the American Basketball Association (ABA) regular season draws to a close, the Maryland Nighthawks (21-10) will get a chance to rest some of their regular players. Already stacked with star players such as Randy "White Chocolate" Gill and Lawrence "Poetry In" Moten, the Nighthawks will add former NBA standout Gheorghe Muresan and Sports Illustrated writer Alexander Wolff to the roster for their final regular season home game against the Harlem Strong Dogs on Sunday, March 5 at 7pm.

Celebrities are allowed to play one game for an ABA team during the season under the 11th Man Rule.

The 7-foot 7-inch Muresan, who won the National Basketball Association's Most Improved Player Award in 1995-1996, averaged 9.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and .573 field goal percentage in his seven-year career. Wolff, the author of several books on basketball, has been a member of the Sports Illustrated staff since 1980. Wolff played one year of professional basketball in Switzerland, and is the owner of the Vermont Frost Heaves, an ABA expansion team that will begin competition next season.

Sunday's game will be a jam-packed celebration of the Nighthawks' successful first season in Montgomery County. Moten will honor several area youth basketball teams. A member of the DC Divas women's professional football team will join Wolff and Muresan in a halftime free-throw shooting fundraiser benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Keynote, the mascot for the Frederick Keys baseball team will be in attendance. Professional wrestlers from the "House of Pain" organization will provide security during the event. The Nighthawks will raffle off special team items to raise money for charity, as well.

Prior to the season finale, the Nighthawks will face the Montreal Matrix on the road on Friday and the Baltimore Pearls at home on Saturday at 6pm.
