Mudcats-Braves Open Championship Series Monday

Zebulon, NC --- The 2008 Southern League Championship Series will begin at Five County Stadium on Monday, September 8 at Five County Stadium between the Carolina Mudcats and Mississippi Braves.

The Mudcats will host the opening two games of the best-of-five on Monday and Tuesday at 7:15 PM ET, with a travel day Wednesday to Trustmark Park where the Braves will host games three, four and five if necessary.

Carolina advanced to the championship series by virtue of a 4-2 victory at Five County over West Tenn to complete a three-game sweep of the Diamond Jaxx. The Braves shutout Birmingham 3-0 on Saturday night to finish a three-game sweep of their own, winning the finale at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS.

The Mudcats are advancing to their fourth championship series, collecting titles in 1995 and 2003, while the Braves are entering their first title round series since relocating from Greenville, SC to Pearl, MS.

Carolina and Mississippi split their regular season series 5-5.
