Mudcats Blank Suns on Sunday

Jacksonville, Fla. - Travis Wood pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout, while two solo homeruns led the Carolina Mudcats (32-25) to a 2-0 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (27-31) in front of 3,078 Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Gro unds of Jacksonville.

Wood (5-3) dealt his first career complete game and shutout for the win, while scattering three hits. The Little Rock, Ark. native struck out eleven, tying a career high. The southpaw put down the last 17 Jacksonville batters in order.

Suns starter Graham Taylor (2-5) fell in the tough luck loss, giving up a solo homerun in his final inning while allowing only two other infield hits.

Carolina's Zach Cozart opened the scoring in the seventh inning with a solo homerun, his sixth of the season, opening a 1-0 lead. The only other run came against Suns reliever Matt Peterson during the ninth inning when Todd Frazier hit his fourth homerun of the sea son, a solo shot that opened a 2-0 advantage.
